Larite Material in Realm Gate | World Anvil

Larite

"Larite is the only ore in Aedran that remains solid while submersed in magma. Larite is found on the Plane of Fire and locations where Aedran touches the Plane of Fire. I have yet to touch this material but I have a good feeling about this expedition."   ~ Unknown Pathfinder

Material Characteristics

Larite is a black semi-transparent stone with a white flame inside the stone.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Larite is extremely hot to the touch and will char the flesh of an improperly protected individual with in moments.

Geology & Geography

Larite is found in places underneath the surface and close to a source of intense heat. If it is found on the surface it is always located near an area that converges with the Plane of Fire. The most common place that is publicly known as a source of Larite is the Mons Ignis, the Fire Giant capital in Uta'Gosh.

Origin & Source

The Plane of Fire is where Larite originates. During the many convergences of the planes some of the Larite was embedded in Aedran.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Fire Giants of Uta'Gosh and denizens of the Plane of Fire utilize Larite as an ore for crafting. It's most commonly used in jewelry due to its rarity. For other races who lack resistance to fire the Larite has to be treated to diminish its temperature to a suitable level.   Larite is also used as a component for high level spells that deal with fire.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Fire Giants see Larite as an ore to be saved for only the most skilled craftsman in their clans. Apprentices discovered with Larite not given to them by a member of their family, or Master, are stripped of their titles and banished.

Hazards

Larite improperly utilized in the crafting process will release the thermal energy stored within the stone. Creatures immune to fire are able to ignore this hazard, but creatures not immune are likely to die from the burns they'll suffer.

I'm here for the Summer Camp Reading Challenge. Here is some feedback: I enjoyed reading about the Unknown Pathfinders note. This gave an initial insight into the material and the dangers of getting it. The everyday use section also gave me a few clear uses to help understand why people would hire someone to get it. One thing I wanted more information on as I was reading was the cultural significance and usage. I wanted to know more about why an apprentice would take the risk to keep Larite on them that was not bestowed upon them by a family member or master. This information would intrigue me as a reader to read an entire chapter's worth of information about this risk. Hope this feedback helps!
