Gaia Stone Material in Realm Gate | World Anvil

Gaia Stone

"This stone is more than a mere rock child. It is from the Mother herself. When She sacrificed Herself for all life She infused Herself upon the world to ensure our survival. It is said that these stones are the remains of Her body when she turned to ash after her sacrifice. Only the those most in tune with nature are allowed to touch it. It is even sacred to The Shifter for even he dares not alter the earth around it."   ~ Hunter Wil

Properties

Material Characteristics

An off-white sandstone textured stone with veins of dark green marble.

Physical & Chemical Properties

The stone feels heavier than one would suspect but is fragile. A simple strike to the right spot on the stone will cause it to flake off or separate into multiple pieces. The marble provides structural stability to the stones. When the marble is looked through at a light source there are small capillaries of air that can be seen to the most keen observer.

Geology & Geography

Gaia Stone can be found anywhere in the Material Plane, but is mainly found in forest, base of mountains, or plains.

Origin & Source

Legend says Gaia Stone is the remains of the Mother, Gaia, when her body turned to ash when she sacrificed herself to sustain life on the Material Plane.

History & Usage

Cultural Significance and Usage

In most of the druid covens under the tutelage of The Shifter Gaia stone is seen as one of the most sacred materials in existence. The stone is so sacred only the Archdruids of the covens are allowed to touch the stones for the most sacred rites. Small fragments found in the wild are considered gifts from the Mother or the Shifter and are considered to have a personal blessing from these divine beings. When the one who found it dies they are either buried with the stone or the stone is presented to the Mother Stone in the village to allow the soul of the past owner to join the Shifter in the afterlife.   In sacred rites Gaia Stone is used as a medium for the Archdruid and it's connection to nature. Athames are made from this stone if the village must move or if no Mother Stone is present in the village. The most common rites Gaia Stone is used for is coming of age, transitions of power, and burial.
