Feast of the Blessed Hunter

"Tonight we honor you mighty hunter with these offerings of our hunts. We thank you for your blessings. With your guidance we are successful hunters. With this feast we honor you Herne"   ~ Unknown Druid

Execution

The Feast of the Blessed Hunter takes place during the spring equinox and the celestial body of the Blessed Hunter is at it's apex in the sky. The preparation for the ritual is extensive and requires that all who are of age hunt a creature and bring their successful hunts. Those that are unsuccessful can still participate in the ritual but must offer there own blood during the libation period.   The day of the ritual starts with the anointment of those of age before the hunt begins. As each hunter is anointed they are given a prey that they must hunt. It's not uncommon for hunters to be paired if the designated prey is a dangerous one. The hunters can only use weapons, bait, or other items that come from nature.   During the hunt those hunters invoke the blessings of Herne and their guidance for their hunts. If successful the prey is brought to the alter. Those unsuccessful  return to the alter and offer their blood to the bowl showing their devotion to appeasing the Blessed Hunter.

Observance

The spring equinox is the normal observance of the Blessed Hunter due to the constellation of the Blessed Hunter being present during that date in most parts of Aerdran. Other civilizations will celebrate it when the constellation is in the correct location, or on the date Herne ascended into being an Archfey. In the Feywilds the observance of the Feast of the Blessed Hunter is very far and few in between since Herne is considered a Wild Fey and doesn't side with either court.
