Change of Command

"It's a very interesting dichotomy if you ask me. A religion that is based around fighting for power amongst themselves conduct legal ceremonies signifying the changing of leadership. I don't even attempt to understand why they conduct themselves this way. I am just to ensure they meet all regulations."   ~ Unknown Judge

History

The first recorded Change of Command took place between the Squire Richard and his mentor Knight Second Class Jan. After successfully besting Knight Second Class Jan in three out of the five competitions in the Iron Crusade Games Squire Richard proclaimed he earned Jan's title and position.   This proclamation established the structure for the Change of Command ritual. The requirements for when this ritual is conducted is dependent on the Grand Cordon but one this remains a constant. Successfully capturing, killing, or causing the surrender of an individual of higher station grants you the right to claim their title and position.

Execution

The Change of Command is a vital tenet within the Church of Usurpation. Without this ceremony no title awarded or gained through combat can be awarded. A Change of Command signifies to the members of the Church of Usurpation that you are strong enough to remain amongst their ranks. The vanquished who turn over their position are either exiled or made into slaves upon completion of the ceremony.

Components and tools

The banner of the initiator of the Change of Command, the banner of the vanquished, and two proclamations written by the observing Judge.

Observance

The ritual is observed by individuals invited by the initiator of the ritual, the individual to be relieved of their position, and a single Judge from the Chamber of Religious Regulation. Once the ceremony is completed the proclamation is signed by both parties, notarized by the observing Judge, and the original stays with the newly appointed whilst a copy is maintained by the local Chamber of Religious Regulation.
