Queen Aurel Umbrenalt (aw-reel um-bre-naalt)

Introduction

As both Matriarch and Goddess of the Valdur, Aurel Umbrenalt is considered a hero amongst her people. Her origin has been purposefully obscured by the Vestmeer in order to maintain the narrative of her legends and deeds.

Hero to Divine

While history may have forgetten the origin of Aurel it has insured that her ascendance from mortal to Divine is well known across Adurvech and potentially beyond.

Champion of the Moon

Drawing power from the Holy Moon, Aurel was a capabable warrior who was tasked in protecting several settlements from the creatures of the night. Over time her success drew the attention of the local monarch of the Umbre Kingdom who saught her out to be his queen.

What the monarch did not disclose as Aurel accepted his invintation was his association with the Batura. Several years after they were succesfully bound under the Holy Moon in marriage, Aurel discovered that the monarch was gifting his own people to the Batura.

Slayer of the Blood-Drinkers

At the next feast dedicated to the monarch Aurel decided to take fate into her own blessed hands. She made a public decree that the monarchs name would be forgotten to history and in his place the Umbre Kingdom would rise. With a single blow she put the monarch and several of his followers to rest. Over the next several months it was Aurel's entire purpose to rescuing those she could from the Batura and slaying the followers of the old monarch.

Goddess of the Holy Moon

Aurel's conquest was so successful that the local settlements started to band together in her name treating her not only as Queen but also as Goddess. With each settlement she stole from the lifeless hands of the Batura the larger her faith grew. By the end of it, the Batura had been driven completely from Tol-Adur and Aurel had become a Divine figure.

Moonlit Sacrilege

To appeast the Holy Moon, the faithful of Auerel are instructed to make blood sacrafices on the first full moon of each year. While most faithful slaughter farm animals or hunt the beasts of the night to be given to the Holy Moon, within Castle Umbrenalt the yearly sacrafice must be that of unblooded Valduri. Those outside of the castle are intentionally left in the dark so that they suspect nothing when the priests of Aurel come asking for volunteers.
