Council of the Archmages

The Council of the Archmages is the executive branch of the Gnaritian government. It is comprised of eight archmages, masters of their craft, leading not only the entire state, but also their respective regions.

The Archmage rank in Gnaritia is reserved for the government officials leading each of the regions and the country as a whole - it isn't enough to be a master of your magical school, you have to be an elected official.

Structure

All of the archmages are equal in their rank, regardless of age, magical proficiency or gender. Each of their votes is also equal when discussing legislature.
The entirety of the proceedings during discussion are broadcasted outside of the Arcanokron. However, it's possible a nominee will request their speech not to be broadcast to the public as a condition for their appearance before the Council.
The the Pass/Decline vote requires more than half of present votes. Archmages vote either for or against the law - they cannot abstain from voting. If a law is passed, it is effective immediately unless otherwise stated in the wording of the document. If the law is declined, it goes back to the Arcane Assembly for reconsideration.

Assets

Each of the archmages has one article of clothing or accessory that is enchanted for resisting the effect of the antimagic field. For security reasons, it isn't specified which item has this enchantment.

Depends!

If you're not from Gnaritia, you've probably heard different things depending on how your country/place of origin views this country. There's varied opinions, from thinking of the council as distinguished and a way of government ahead of its time, all the way to "silly wizardy-people sit in a circle and chant or do whatever the hell magic people do for fun".

If you're a Gnaritian citizen, well then the Council is the highest governing body of the state.

If you're into politics, you'd also know that elections happen every 20 years or so, on a different year for each region, usually sometime in autumn. 

There's been all types of Archmages in the past, both ones that take part in the community and ones who think they're better than everyone else. Anyone can run, technically, if you're of age and specialize in a specific type of magic, but it does help if you're reputable or rich.
