Palea

A realm of nightmare.

Perfect Home

Large trunks of sporadic pine trees and evergreens spread throughout the forest. Tall straight tree trunks populate the area spread out in all directions on a mostly bare flat leaf covered ground. Bits of pale silver light shine through the canopy above, slightly illuminating the dimly lit woods. A ruined wooden structure stands isolated in tangled brush, sort of a tall skinny apartment building. Wooden boards cover windows, and the boards that construct the walls are sort worn and splintered that, you can partially see inside. As you enter, you see the building is clearly long abandoned, although you can’t really think of anyone would’ve wanted to build a house here in the first place. The walls are a weird solid rust red color, with the occasional scratchy graffiti. Little miss. Perfect home. Things will turn around. Woodstone be cleansed. Debris is everywhere and a thick layer of dust coats everything, crates, the railings. The bottom floor is actually multi-leveled, and you realize the house is strangely large.
“This house is falling apart!”, Lee picks up and old moldy rugs, and crumbles some of it away in her hands, “do you see this?”
She begins to pick up the pace, and runs up a broken splintery spiral staircase, "Up here, quick!"
You step out onto the remnants of what used to be a deck, but is now just a partially destroyed wooden platform. You look out not on the evergreen forest you entered from, but an isolated dead wood, full of dried out dead trees, many of which are just dried splintered trunks pointing into the air. A kind of sepia-colored stagnant dust or mist obscures most of your view as you look into the distance, but something seemingly large in size seems to be moving through the dead woods. It’s difficult to see, be it looks like a large chariot, being pulled by maybe a horde of something, humanoids? Riding the chariot you can make a towering figure, sitting back against the seat.
When you turn around Lee is pacing back and forth fast with a sort of incredulous, ‘I knew it’ expression on her face. "It was the wood!" she says with uncanny enthusiasm, pointing down off the deck. You look down to a dead tree trunk, which you know see has tiny holes visible all over the center of it, she yells "It's because of this!!" in a completely hysterical voice. A completely mundane dried out tree trunk. A sudden forceful push from behind you sends you off the decrepit deck, and you rapidly close with the stumps jagged wooden splinters.

"Lalt"

You all stand alone, with the exception of each other, in what appears to be an unnerving, almost counterfeit version of Lower Lalt. Besides the cluster of buildings that make up the hakolk sracλk, you see that the makeshift arena that Milo and Bonestealer was on still sits central to you all, though now vacant. The Northern Lalt woods still stretches out before you, but appears darker and more expansive than before. Looking into town, you see all the rickety houses, and buildings that you think should be there, but they’re more angular and all around less familiar than you expected. Perhaps the most unsettling is the sky, which looks as though a violent storm has silently frozen in places. Dark, ink-like clouds hover eerily-still against the pale gray timeless sky, as if any moment it might all crash down on you.
The streets are desolate. The walk through the city is uncomfortable to say the least. Since nothing is quite as you remember, its hard to find your bearings. The alley ways that lead to the main road in Lower Lalt now spits you out into an incoherent smattering of long abandoned Laltian houses and trees, with not a familiar landmark in sight. The more you all try to orient yourselves the more lost you get. But one thing that you begin to see that stands out, is a large brownish-orange dome which you can just see coming into view in the distance overtop the rooftops. As you traverse alley ways, you note the entrance to a long hall way snaking around the side of houses, irregularly heading in the direction of the dome.
Walking through the hallway becomes quite monotonous. As you go further in nothing ever looks different, always twisting and turning in arbitrary directions, the end is never in sight and it doesn’t seem as if there is one. But you do eventually notice it become darker, and actually at one point totally devoid of light, except a small pinpoint of light ahead of you possibly 100 ft ahead.
As you get closer you not see the light is a small, sort of cozy, candle-lit desk area coming into view. Pitch darkness still obscures all that is outside of 10ft radius on dim light. But within, you can now see an old slanted wooden desk, tucked into the corner of perhaps a cottage. Its quite a cluttered area, but a high stack of old dusty books, parchment, and dried ink vials are stacked up on the right side of the desk against the wall pretty much completely obscuring a low window next to it. On the wall in front of the desk is a series of small framed pictures. On the desk is a mostly melted candle, a quill in some ink, and an open notebook. Such a small closed in area gives it almost an aura of safety. But you see that a sheet has been hung from the ceiling segmenting, the little desk area off from the rest of the room. A small note is pinned to the sheet.
DO NOT LOOK BEHIND THE SHEET OR DISTURB IT IN ANYWAY. We’ve worked so hard to cover the dark corners of the room. Instructions to maintain ones safety will ensue upon successful markings.
