Baron

A Baron is a general title of nobility across various kingdoms, with various meanings and relative rankings depending on the structure of the corresponding kingdom.
The kingdom of Chernin uses the title as a specific position of authority. Specifically, it is the highest-ranking noble in any of the peripheral settlements outside the capital. The title can be granted and removed at the will of the Chernin Council.
Other kingdoms, such as Colemaar Kingdom and Dundragon use the title as part of a hierarchy of nobility. These kingdoms have Earls, Dukes, and other hierarchical levels of nobility, and the Baron fits in different levels in the different kingdoms.
