Chernin Council
This group of 9 people run the kingdom of Chernin. The members are representatives of various areas of life and commerce in the kingdom and are elected to serve 5-year terms. No member can serve back-to-back terms.
Structure
Not hierarchical in terms of power or responsibility. All decisions must be agreed by either a majority or unanimity of the council, depending on the specific issue at hand. Members of the council are (in no specific order):
- High Priest of Pelor -- represents not only that temple but all religion in the kingdom
- Maritime Baron -- represents sailors and dockworkers
- Lord Mayor of Lyesa -- represents the government of the capital city
- Artisans' Baron -- represents the masons, carpenters, and various types of smiths
- General of the Army -- represents the military structure of the kingdom, assesses threats and preparedness
- Agriculture Baron -- represents the farmers, herders, and other rural interests
- Warden -- represents the nobility and people of the other cities beside Lyesa
- Trade Baron -- represents the merchants and caravans, as well as banking and finance interests
- Labor Baron -- represents day-laborers, unskilled workers, and various frontier nomad workers
History
Established after the fall of the Astorio Empire, this Council was created to rule the kingdom and keep power out of one person's hands. No one member has any more power than the others, though among them the councilors may not see it that way.
