Celestial Bridges
There are three celestial bridges which are massive superstructures that orbit Earth in the same manner as a planetary ring. Each ring completely circles the Earth and is home to billions of Earthlings. The rings are directly subject to Earth Law and the rings are the direct property of the Ultron Corporation.
The lowest orbiting ring is called Centauri and is the most heavily populated and with a large emphasis on industry. Centauri is the only ring with direct access to Earth as it is connected via orbital elevators. This makes Centauri the most heavily used for transportation of goods to and from Earth. The ring orbits the planet at 22400 miles (36049.3 km) from the surface.
There are a total of 240 orbital elevators on Earth of which 12 are connected directly into Centauri for ease of transport into space freight. The Ultron Corporation owns 174 of the 240 orbital Elevators and has a near monopoly on all exports to and from earth. Centauri employs the majority of its inhabitants into the freight and logistic industries that share the ring.
The connection point between the Centauri and the orbital elevator is called a Mass Relay Station. The Mass Relay Station acts as a city for citizens and a space port for freight and spacers going to either the ring itself or Earth. There are a total of 160 public Mass Relay Stations, the others are all reserved for military use only. The vast majority of citizens on Centauri live in the Mass Relay Station housing.
While the orbital elevators were created from earth material the bridges are all made from extraterrestrial material mined from Mars, Venus, and the Western System Colonies as well as the Lunar mines. Despite them being made primarily from non-Earth metal they are all firmly all within Earth law due to their proximity to the planet.
