Spinethumper

"You must understand, dear friend, that this is no ordinary beast. It might appear to be a lizard, but it is, in fact, quite the deadly spinethumper."
''Nonsense! This beast is as tame as a house cat!"
"Suit yourself..."
— A man and his until quite recently two-handed friend

Deserted Grasslands

Skittering across the harsh sand and soil of the savannas that stretch across the Northern regions of Kubicha, a creature hides buried within the tufts of grass and sand.   Dark stripes over its sandy coloured scales help keep it from sight, but the most perceptive can see its large black eyes and the grey-white pieces of bone poking through its skin along the ridges above its eyes and down the back of its skull. Strong claws poke out of its toes, threatening to rip into flesh with the barest of movements. It's long legs propel it forward at high speeds, letting it evade predators with ease. Their long snout has a strong jaw with dozens of needle-sharp teeth.

Torn from Soil

Though their teeth and claws are fit for tearing and rending flesh, these creatures are herbivores, and only tear into other creatures when threatened and unable to escape. Many poachers have found themselves maimed or missing limbs by trying to catch one of them. If their claws and teeth aren't effective or are lost, they will resort to bashing their thick skulls against whatever is threatening them, with the boney protrusions on their skull shoving that force into the body of the predator in focused points.   They are intelligent, and are capable of discovering weakspots in predators for when their herd next comes up against them, and over hundreds of years have learned to aim for wherever the most pain can be delivered. Armed with the knowledge of how to best deliver pain, their name stems from what they have been seen doing: thumping their thick skulls into the spines of creatures.
