Shadows Hide The Light

Lurking beyond the world of mortals, waiting for their time to strike, biding their time until they can become flesh, are creatures born of the night. Their forms shift but they are ever hungry, the blades of teeth in their jagged maws reflecting what lesser dark is there to shine on them. Their barren landscape of a realm torn asunder by the very things they have become; monsters of the night, shadows in the corners of rooms, darkened alleys where anything may lurk, they call all of them home.
Their skin dismantles the light that touches it, bringing it darker than even the darkest of skies or the blackest of coals. Their eyes tear into anyone who sees them, daring the nightmares out of their mind, bringing forth that which you never wish to think of again. Their bodies are wrenched from the abyss, gaunt and twisted, and sheathed in a writhing smoke of scale. Their wings barely exist, where a thick leathery membrane should sit lies that same writhing smoke, trailing off into nothingness.

The Bright Creates The Night

Once they find a crossing, these creatures always travel them, as they are uncommon and impermanent. Their hunt begins once they enter the light, jumping from darkness to darkness, revealing their full form only when forced to fight. Whether they walk in the shadow of a building or within a shade of a mortal due to become their feast, they are masters of their element.
Never heard, rarely seen, their immense forms threaten to devour the light.
That is what awaits those who go looking in the dark.
