From their inception to their death, the khodurus emanates the lightning they were born of. This emanation causes them to have an electric aura surrounding their tortoise-like body. Their eyes glow with the same heat and power as their aura, and while they may appear similar to a tortoise, they could not be more distinct from them.
Only a single khodurus may manifest at a time, brought down from the skies to the land during the most severe storms. Their presence in the Eight Lands ensures that major storms will quell easily after a time, becoming no worse than a bad thunderstorm. As long as they hold their lightning, they draw the power of the storms to them. Should they lose their lightning, not only do they die, but another cannot live until the worst is upon the Eight Lands.
A khodurus can only die if a person kills them, no part of nature would willingly hurt a creature of their power.

Discharged

They are extremely difficult to kill, should you try to do so. Their shelled body keeps their core protected and their scales are as hard as a dragons. Their teeth and claws are razor sharp and will send electricity surging through your body if they cut into you. Should you get close enough to a khodurus to attack them, metal weapons attract their aura, causing them to heat up and shock the wielder.
The one sure-fire way of attacking one is to wield magic, but be warned, their shells protect them from more than just swords and arrows. There is always the danger of your spells reflecting back off their shell and right at you, however slim it may be.
They aren't unfriendly creatures, simply one that protects the world from the danger it can pose to itself. The cost of killing a thing so pure, even with the best of intentions, is extremely high, and the price will be paid. Some lose their souls, a few lose their loves, others lose their minds.
