Dular Species in Pronathea | World Anvil

Dular

"You've seen them in motion, haven't you? The Dular? It's like watching the earth come to life."
"That's the thing about them, isn't it? Always teaching us, even when they're just dancing."
— Old Wilbur & Granny Meg

The Ocean of the Sky

With characteristic greyed skin, light coloured hair and eyes, the Dular stand slightly taller than the average human. Their naturally stocky physique lends itself to the rigors of their culture, giving them the strength to do what is necessary throughout the day.   The Dular once stayed in the sections of the world where there was very little to be found; the mountains, plains, and empty caverns, deep forests, desolate islands, each place a new start and each place beginning a new search for the next. These continual searches for new homes brought with it a great many battles to be fought, leading to many dead and many more who lost their way in the chaos. While not each search brought a fight, thousands of homesteads and towns were laid desolate by the wandering Dular, ever seeking their next resting place.   While their past is filled with warfare, conquests, and a seemingly endless hunt to reach eternity; the Dular have long since reached a path of redemption. Ceasing their warring, the Dular have become a peaceful species amongst the mortals of the Eight Lands, no longer seeking to claim that which belongs to others.

The Motion of the World

Though they have become a peaceful kind, their ancestors thought to future generations and instilled a practice of martial arts within them all.   Practicing the martial art of Orono, the Dular harness the smooth and deliberate movements inspired by the wind and the waves, called oronas, as their defense. Whether they take the form of snap strikes born from the Chiming Wave, or the disarming maneuvers of the Cresting Whistle, the Dular live by their movements, finding peace in their determination to complete their oronas on a daily basis and continue their legacy of peacetime through remembrance.   Without the guidance given by their ancestors, it is not known whether the Dular of today would be standing as they are. Mixed within the many cities and towns of the Eight Lands, no longer restricting themselves to the secluded and silent wilds, some find their own silence and seclusion within the walls of their homes to only then step outside into the unique wilds of the city they chose as their permanent home.

I like that you've managed to get across a hint of the rich history of the Dular.

I'm glad you enjoyed it; writing a species like the Dular was a bit of a struggle for me, I was never sure how to write it, but in the end I think it clicked fairly alright.
