Berton

The Western Horizon

"Founded by two madmen, Berton has become the Western-most city of the Eight Lands, providing an unobstructed view across the Cresting Waves. A beautiful sight for all to behold, but watch your pockets while you're there.

Waves of Melancholy

The beautiful sunsets and sunrises of Berton make the place seem like an idealistic city with everything available to everyone. However, this isn't the case. Berton is a place of the privileged and a home to the needy. While the city itself is quite heavily populated with those who are more than well off with their own lifestyles, it also holds a significant amount of petty criminal activity, such as pickpockets and cutpurses.   Due to the nature of the populace, Berton has a heavy guard presence, though the guards are slowly ageing and few are being added into service from their own population, with many of the new guardsmen being ones who have lived and trained in other cities and have found a new home and position within this coastal city.

The Rested & the Relaxed

Despite the heavy amount of petty crime, Berton does well as a holiday location year round. While it can get fairly chilly during the winter months, the summer and springtime are beautifully warm and the waters are a delight to behold. The warmth and clarity of the ocean waves and the odd large pool of water scattered across the island make every opportunity to dive in a pleasure.   The island is one covered by an odd amalgamation of jungle and taiga, as the overgrowth becomes frost-ridden and snow-covered during the winter months, though the plants withstand the punishment fairly easily. Large creatures can be found crawling throughout, which makes adventuring across the island a dangerous task if you choose to blaze your own trail. Around the city of Berton is a large number of hiking trails and roads leading to nearby towns and villages.
