Farseer and the Hierophants

The Farseer is a life-long position held by the most powerful wizard in the land. Residing in a tower at the Palace of Victorious Sun, the Farseer aids the Lord or Lady of the Victorious Sun as an advisor. If a new lord or lady ascends into the House of the Victorious Sun, the Farseer keeps his or her position to counsel the new ruler. As a result, the Farseer wields a great deal of power behind the scenes. The current Farseer is an old man named Hilve, who has occupied the position for over a century. Each Great House has a Hierophant: a great wizard who functions as an advisor to that house's ruler, and directs the house's judicial system and arcane training. Each Hierophant is a remarkable wizard in their own right, and their ability is further enhanced by the arcane abilities bestowed upon them by the Farseer. The Hierophants are appointed by, report directly to, and are expected to be completely loyal to, the Farseer. If a Great House is demoted, its Hierophant remains to serve the house that ascends to one of the Great Houses. Their loyality lies foremost to the farseer and less so to their respective houses.
