The Otherworld Conspiracy Pt. 1: Treasured Finds

Shortly after returning from the spring break road trip, Dark Hawk confers with the Scarlet Witch to find out more information about the crystal shards he had gathered at the crater in Texas. Wanda recognizes them as containing eldritch magic but admits her knowledge is limited in that area. She suggests that Dr. Fate might be able to help. With that, Dark Hawk flies to Salem, Massachusetts where he finds a square tower with no windows or doors. When he knocks on the wall, he finds himself pulled inside the tower and face to face with Inza Nelson who motions Dark Hawk to follow her. He is led into a "room" where Dr. Fate is floating and meditating. When Dr. Fate examines the crystals he determines that they are the result of the interaction of powerful Eldritch magics on the material plane. He suggests that he keep the samples and he will let Dark Hawk know what else he finds. Dr. Fate also gives Dark Hawk a brief history of the Ithul.   Sometime later, Dean Warner's office explodes from a massive air blast, putting the Dean in a coma. The heroes investigate the office with Detective Eaglesmith who can only surmise that a powerful force spell manifested in the center of the room and blew it apart. When the heroes check, the box they received in New Mexico and the item that was in it are missing. Detective Eaglesmith asks them if they know anyone named "Ori" as that was the only thing the Dean said when he was found by the night security guard. The detective also lets the heroes know that even with mystical healing, the Dean remains in a coma. Dark Hawk and Archer search the room and find mystic residue, and they take a sample.   Going to the hospital, the heroes are allowed to visit the Dean's room. His Doctor, Dr. Stephen Strange, notes that there is nothing they can find that would account for the Dean remaining in a coma. Everything they have says he should just be able to get up and walk away from his bed. Once Dr. Strange leaves the room, Angel suggests using his abilities to read into Dean Warner's memories to see what happened. Detective Eaglesmith tells them they can't do that without the permission of his next of kin, but Dean Warner has no known family as his wife died some 10 years ago. Plastiq "distracts" the detective while Angel goes into Dean Warner's memory. He sees, through the Dean's eyes, he was looking over the artifact and doing some research. He took a book from the shelf, found something that made sense to him and put the book back on the shelf. Just then, a wind began sucking air into the center of the room and just as quickly explodes, trashing the room. The Dean is knocked to the floor and is found by a security guard and the Dean manages to say "Ori" before passing out.   Meanwhile, Plastiq and Angel contact Eddie to have him go to the Dean's office and find the book the Dean Warner was examining. Eddie manages to find it and brings it to the hospital. Dark Hawk is informed of what the heroes have learned so he calls Inza and soon Dr. Fate arrives. He confirms that the Dean is being kept in a coma by very powerful magics and he must investigate further. Dr. Fate says he needs to check on something and tells Hope that danger lurks behind the veil of friendship and that she should warn her mother. Looking at the book, they determine that Dean Warner was researching Atlantis and the metal orichalcum which is renowned for its magical properties. Hope decides that they need to do more research and the best library, especially on mystic knowledge, is the library in the Starlight Citadel in Otherworld.   The heroes travel to Otherworld, which is everyone except Hope's first trip to the dimension. They are greeted by the sight of a dwarf making a delivery of Owlbear Ale to the Earth realm, a medieval bakery and castles floating in the sky. They make their way to the Starlight Citadel and are greeted by Merlin. The heroes ask Merlin about the magical residue from Dean Warner's office, he mentions that the magic has nearly dissipated but he will check into it. Inside the library, they meet Marian, an elderly elven librarian who assists the heroes in finding books on the subjects they want to research. When Dark Hawk mentions the Ithul, Marian is shocked not having heard that name in centuries. She brings him the books he requests, including the only tome on the Ithul but warns him that it's in a language that no one has been able to read. Dark Hawk finds he can read it just fine as it is written in Umbral.   The heroes spend a few hours at the library before Hope realizes that she should probably call her parents.
