Session 73: Ice and Stone Report
General Summary
The session began as the party made their way into the Feramur Dig Site which they had been directed to by the governor of Wikrum as the head of research had been staying there for some time and might know more about the surrounding areas.
Inside the dig site, the characters did indeed find the one they were looking for, Hiori Hinoka and her companion Colombos. Inside the dig site was a massive metal door covered in engravings. They were mainly divided into three horizontal sections.
The top section featured dwarven figures pushing each against each other's shoulders, meeting hand to hand where the two doors met.
The middle section featured a row of square-shaped rooms with metal bars between the walls of the each room.
The bottom section corners featured a room with a large angular-looking creature, except for a circle in it's center. Engraved on the circle was some sort of demonic or fiendish face. The section also contained more of these angular-looking creatures, but smaller, some chained and some wielding pickaxes, striking against some sort of stone, mineral, or crystal.
In front of the door was a wagon, having fallen to it's side as it was frozen while moving away from the door. Hiori explained to the character how the lever to open the door was 'locked' and she believe there was something that would allow them to open the door inside the wagon, however it was protected by powerful abjuration magic. So, Nitt dispelled the magic and Arten Veronica Lagurdo went about exploring the inside finding many destroyed documents inside it and a metal chest containing a Spell Scroll of Heal as well as a runed metal rod, which allowed them to 'unlock' the lever and open the door.
Behind the door, they found a large antichamber filled with skeletal, dwarven remains. They gathered that the dwarves likely didn't die from frost as the other dwarves they had found seemed to have been frozen whole. At the end of the antichamber, they found a large hole and a elevator letting them go down it. Near this, Maro Rei 'Sky' found a glass sphere with a tiny red-orange light near what looked like a stone construction that would house such a sphere. They rolled into the construction as some sort of construct awakened, paused to look around, before walking out onto the elevator and entering a 'resting' state.
Next, the party tested with the elevator, discovering it was surrounded by a tower. This tower held 10 ft. by 10 ft. rooms that could be moved onto and off the elevator, letting one move these 'cells' about the tower. They then descended to the bottom of the tower where it seemed to be like the bottom of a mine. Stepping away from the elevator two large metal worms, with industrial shredders as mouths began attacking them.
During the battle, Hiori aided them and the construct they had activated at the top of the elevator also helped in defeating the worms. As Baradin Godchosen Banished one of the worms, they focused on taking out the other one, with Nitt finishing it by rusting it before it fell apart. They then brought back the banished worm and defeated it with Maro finishing it with several blows to it's inside machinery after Omen ei' Taure had ripped away part of it's outer plating.
Not finding much more of value, they took a rest and asked Colombos about seeing some of their maps, finding "Dragon?" was written across the Geal Spire, the largest mountain near the valley and decided to try and venture in that direction, setting out and meeting Naaldoshi outside the dig site. Now, they discussed with Naaldoshi about exploring the valley and decided to try and negotiate with the giants that Naaldoshi had told them was in the quarry to the east in Session 72: Beneath the Snow Report.
So, they ventured east to the quarry, engaging the giant's by having Omen yell out that they wished not to fight but to trade. One giant emerged from the quarry and spoke with them as Omen introduced them to the giant. After trading some words Omen asked the giant about fighting a powerful dragon to which the giant responded that their kin would not aid in the slaying of a dragon, at least not those here. Omen then asked where the dragon that protects this land could be found and the giant pointed to the north-northwest. As they were about to leave, the giant left them a final warning that if they encountered the Acoltyes of the Iron Wastes, the acolytes would let nothing stand in their way and that the giants were once a single group.
Leaving the quarry, the party decided to head northward toward a place they had heard about in Wikrum called Gavin's Shack, which Naaldoshi added was some sort of cursed place. On the way there, they stumbled upon an old giant campsite where a corpse of a large elephant-like creature covered in blue and red fur, with two large flat tusks at the front. Naaldoshi cut up the corpse and consumed a piece of it raw after Eldon Caufield had given them a piece of bread that Naaldoshi had spit out claiming Eldon was trying to poison them.
After this, they noticed a fallen tower, with a broken glass dome at the top and a trail of grey smoke escaped from the hole. They climbed into the top of the tower, through the hole, finding that there was a tesla coil-like machine in what would've been the center of the room, attached to the now wall. Nitt investigated the machinery, discerning it could likely affect the weather in an area around it, spanning about a mile in radius and was currently causing a light snowfall. Thus, they decided to turn the machine off so it would no longer manipulate the weather around it. Leaving the tower behind, they made their way to Gavin's Shack which was a cottage placed next to a frozen lake in the middle of the valley. On the door was a sign with "Gavin's Shack" carved in cursive into it. As Omen knocked on the door, it went slightly ajar, though no one seemed to have opened it and as Omen fully opened the door to this "cursed" house, the session ended.
