Maro Rei 'Sky' Character in Primatis | World Anvil

Maro Rei 'Sky'

Maro Rei 'Sky' (a.k.a. Weather boy)

Maro Rei, often known as 'Sky' is the youngest member of The Excursionists who wants to get out in the world and prove himself a hero. Maro first encountered the party during a quest in Alquín and has stuck with them since. On his adventures, Maro has learned much about what kind of person he wants to be, and when something is wrong, he isn't afraid of letting others know. He has also taken a minor interest in the following of Astraeus, The Starborn, seeing many of the god's tenets close to his own beliefs.   Maro is a fighter who uses a variety of different strategies to damage, disrupt, or disorient his enemies. During the campaign, he was also taught basic monk fighting styles and has taken to using his weapons in far more skillful ways. Similar to Omen ei' Taure, Maro focuses on being the target of the enemies, not letting them attack the party's spellcasters, but can see the opportunity for himself to get into the midst of the fight and deal some damage.   Maro wields a strange longsword known as a Shadow Blade, enhancing his strikes when in bright light. In addition, he wields an enhanced longbow and several protection and utility items that let him move about the battlefield freely.   Being honest with others is important to Maro and he has shown his disdain for it previously. He also respect those with bodies trained in martial arts and skilled fighters, but especially if they can show that their skill and power is not misused but instead put towards helping others.

Soldiers, From Near and Far
1st of Ithil 139 ED

Soldiers, from near and far The enemy went out and left the their doors ajar   Last time they took us by surprise This time we are ready for a fight Their hybris is what brought them here   They think this will be easy Despite all the time we’ve had to prepare, they still think they will take us unaware They think we will betray our land. That we will cower and run.   I think they are wrong   I think they will be skewered by the tips of our collective blades, spears, and arrows. They will be clubbed by our hammers and hammered by our clubs. Our spells will smite them and our axes cut them down.   Their hybris have brought them here to die, and the doors of velamon will be open still when we arrive   So what do you say men? Is it time to prove them wrong? Let me hear you again Say Aye   And so we kill every last one of them

The City Was Razed

Long-time without writing as we have mostly been traveling without many interruptions.   As we returned to Dwimakna nothing could have prepared us for what we encountered. The population was fully gone and buildings had been turned into rubble. Some guards from Pelayar had set up camp around the old town but no trails of what had happened was to be found on the surface. However we were informed that they had found an open iron archway in the mines. Above the entrance of the gate, written in infernal, a scripture welcomed us. “In the days of end shall this gate lead to a city of chains” and as omen stepped through, he found himself in close proximity to Jangling Hither. A city in Minaurus, the third layer of hell, suspended above an acidic bog by great chains. Close by the entrance into the plane we found the corpse of a cultist who hadn’t made it very far, and through some clever deceit and through the wonders of modern necromancy, we managed to get some answers about was starting to brew down here and what the gathering had been looking for. We did some investigating for other cultists and started to pick up a hot trail.   During our asking around we also found a strange traveller at a tavern, one who spoke our language. He told us that he was looking for “something” and always seemed to me to be in some sort of a careless haste. The mans name was Feight, and may that name stick with me forever for I found him to be quite interesting character. While doing some of our investigations, we also found ourselves time to kill a company of just about six devils working in the soul trades. Never be mistaken by any charming words about this acidic plane, for the hells is a wretched place, and I think most of what exist in there should be better off gone, which is why I take some low sort of relief in knowing I helped lower the number of its more despicable inhabitants.   After some time of detectivework, we finally caught up to our pray. Just in time to see them dive into the pool of acid below and make their way towards the centre of the lake. With some caution we went after them and through some strenuous diving from my own part, we had discovered a giant metal structure at the bottom. Entering the halls through an intake, we found ourselves on the inside of a series of hexagonal rooms and as we encountered our supposed enemies in the third of these rooms, we were set up for a shock. Out of the five people, four of them would prove to be old friends, two of them being Aiko and Tomatsu and the other two of them being friends of Omens, all mind controlled by Leah the head-priestess, slinging magic eerily similar to the Gormagala's. Battles and strifes are simply not possible to do justice in journals, but after incapacitating Aiko and with the help of some great crowd control from my party, I managed to promptly brake the jaw of Leah. Her body then proceded to break down into many and many again, tiny maddening viral loads, very much like ones we had seen only some weeks ago, and our friends all fell softly and unconscious to the floor. With the threat now handled we pressed on deeper into the chambers and found what the group had been looking for. A strange object, almost impossible to lift for me and omen, but one that Catherine could lift with ease.   It has now safety been put away into hands out of our control.

A Ruler of Flames

Since we recently, through a grave overestimation of our own capabilities, put ourselves in serious danger this entry might be drained some from the spirit that I usually carry in my writing. I hope anyone reading might find it in their heart to ignore this. As we were walking down the pass to visit Dwimakna our mission caught up with us. We happened upon a Minotaur guarding the roads, warning us not to continue. The beasts in the area had been acting up recently and were attacking any travellers they could find unprovoked. Discussing our situation for a while he decided that we could stay with him for a while, until time came that we could safely pass towards the city.   Ocz Bpvmydvi, ivhzy Vmivm Agvhzczvmo, ncjrzy pn oj ocz Mpgzm, rcj di opmi zskgvdizy oj pn jpm bdqzi hdnndji. We stumbled upon a caravan being ravaged by a wyvern, with only a lone survivor standing up against the threat, the elf woman Velara. After ending the murderous lizard, we decided to travel together for the rest of the duration to Dwimakna. In the city we heard of many cases similar to the ones of Velara. The temple was packed of people in need of healing and the head-priestess, Leah, told us that one of the wounded had seen some strange activity by a waterfall outside of the city. Men in robes, much like the cultists had been spotted sneaking around up there. Unknowing as we were we naturally headed there to investigate and while calmly talking to one another, a giant black dragon had snuck up on us and showered us in its necrotic breath, knocking me of my feet and all but me and Omen unconscious. Hastily I resuscitated Eldon with a healing potion and the man in turn got the entire party back to life with one of his spells. Nitt then banished the beast and gave us much needed time to hide away in a nearby cave, as we narrowly escaped the ambush with our lives intact. We are now bound for Velamon to let Cathrine submit some scientific results to the academy.

A Forest Growing With Its Roots in the Ceiling

After walking for quite some time we reached the hole in the centre, and climbing down it we happened upon a strange sight. Just as the map had shown we were now in a forest growing from the roof and down, with the solid ground being far far below us. It goes without mention that Cathrine was not thrilled about this development. Personally I found this second layer to be very beautiful and also very exiting in its unusual habitus. The many updrafts served to bring small droplets of water to the trees, while also creating the illusion of waterfalls falling upwards in the most wind ridden of areas. The branches of the many trees were sturdy and close between, so we slowly and controllably started to make our way towards one of the edges, where a strange building was marked on our map. Upon our arrival we found a homestead carved into one of the larger of trees in this forest, with an observatory of countless spyglasses overlooking its surroundings. This would also be the place where we got to meet our two first living locals. A woman who called herself Ozen and her young helper Marulk ran an outpost down here, where people from the surface could take rest on their journeys, and they brought us in to stay and rest for a while. Over the duration of our stay they answered a lot of the questions we had held about this place, and also informed us of some of the dangers we would encounter delving deeper into the hollow. Before she would let us continue our decent in good conscience, she wanted to test the ones who would call themselves defenders of the group, which only amounted to two of us: Omen and yours truly. Ozen was a formidable opponent to be sure, of the likes I have never sparred with before. Unmoved by any hit taken and dealing blows with the force of a rock sliding full speed down a mountain behind them. The ageing woman tested and trained us for a couple of days before we finally took our leave, and sometime after we had thanked the woman and the young boy for their hospitality, and left their homely resort, we started closing in on the edges of the third layer. And as we entered a strange cave found ourselves back outside of the mighty walls of Pelayar with the cube laying at our feet once again.

A Calm Day of Rafting

Just as the land started to smooth out a bit, we stumbled upon an old village. Windmills were located over the cliff sides with their wings placed horizontally, most likely made to catch and make use of updrafts. We found some of the population long dead. Only skeletons remaining, all sitting in a serene praying position. A strange settlement to be sure. From here we could see that a nearby river paved our path towards the centre, so we decided to craft ourselves a raft out of materials we could find in the village, and began our slow sail downstream for the remainder of the day. But as we started hearing the roaring waters of a large waterfall coming up we came to the understanding that time had come to abandon ship.

Omen Punched a Beast Out of the Sky

We fight a lot of wildlife on our journeys, so I usually don’t give a lot of attention to these instances. However, this occasion inspired way to much awe in me for me to leave it undocumented. While fighting a small wyvern under a large looming tree with glowing red leaves, the beast attempted to get itself out of our reach by taking to the air. Omen responded to this change of pace swiftly as he rapidly scaled the tree, leaped from one of the many branches above, and stunned it with a steady strike to its head, sending it back onto the cold hard ground. All of this came to pass within the span of just about six seconds. It is surely one of the most unbelievable things I have seen him manage during our travels, which if you knew him like I do, would say a lot.

The Hollow Once More

As we continued our decent along the cliff walls we encountered and got swarmed by some creatures mimicking the human cry for help. White and winged, with the talons of a bird and the face of a weasel, with red tips of its wings and on its feathered tail. It had an eye in its forehead and one of his left side with no eyes on its right side. Its eyes and ears were also outlined in red. The meat tasted quite bad. I have attached a sketch bellow.

A lot of time has passed

I’d rather not go into detail, but in some part I helped Cathrine in her conspiracy in Goldmoor, before I realized that this was not my fight and headed for Pelayar to find more about these ruling dragons. My companions never less managed well and her family is now safe. Omen too succeeded with his missions. And a new person has joined our adventuring party. A mage called Nitt from Goldmoor. On the eve of our reunion they solved the next riddle of the cube as we all entered the hollow once more.

Current missions

Omen is delivering his artefact to his monastery while Josephine and the rest of us are trying to help her out in family business. After that we are attempting to help omen to reach his family once more.

Golden gate

We found a golden gate that took us out of the hollow and back into the room where we had left off. Since scarlet had nowhere to go she was tagging along for a while. But promptly disappeared during the day. Right about when I had a strange dream…

Flying is awesome

We have already spent a lot of time in here, and since we are on the clock we are now trying to speed it up by travelling some of the distance by Eldon and Scarlet, morphed into flying beast, and letting them fly us downwards. We have had many exhilarating encounters so far, and there are probably more to come.

We fought a cult

Time has been in short supply lately so I will have to excuse my rushed way of writing. Our mission had caused us travelled across the plains, trying to reach the mine where omens family had disappeared. Stopping by a village of orcs, and later getting attacked by a bird with fiery feathers on the homestreatch. No matter. In the mine we found a cult hideout, and leading them was a Minotaur, who we encountered and swiftly killed in a labyrinth of his own making. Omen found one of his treasured artefacts (the sky), and the cube finally revealed its secrets as it pulled us into into another world with the press of a button. Here we met a tiefling who we named Scarlet. Her mind seemed feeble and she did not seem to not remember much. This place seems dangerous so we took her along for the journey as we make our way downwards.
