Session 63: Breaking and Entering Report

General Summary

The session began as the party had entered the mansion of the Denivas family in Niduin by breaking through the northern door. They managed to prevent any noise from being heard by using the Cube of Thávma to create a sound-blocking barrier. Inside, they entered through another door to find a knight in a storage room. They then quickly incapacitated and choked the guard, before noticing the servant they had to leave the premise earlier returned and entered the building.   They stayed mostly still while hearing someone walking from above them and shortly after, the servant left the building once more. Maro Rei 'Sky' was worried about the underground tunnel they had found previously and split from the rest to keep watch on it. The rest of the party remained in the main building and made their way to the entrance hall.   As they went into the entrance hall, they were attacked from a balcony overseeing the hall by knights waiting for them. A mage from above threw a fireball, hitting the more squishy members of the party and Omen ei' Taure rushed up the stairs to get in the mage's way. In the meantime, Eldon Caufield sent a message to Maro letting him know that they had engaged an enemy. Maro had managed to get through the adamantine sheet in the passage but found another stone wall at the end of the passage. Nitt cast Hold Person on one of the knights and Takemura Yoshiro rushed up and swiftly ended their life with a slash to the throat.   Eldon walked up the stairs to help his friends but the mage misty stepped behind him and polymorphed him into a cat. To aid him, Nitt summoned an Arcane Hand and grappled the last remaining knight knights.   As Takemura tried to finish off the grappled knight, Baradin Godchosen banished him to prevent another death. In the meantime, the mage was attempting to run away but Omen caught up to them and knocked them out whilst Baradin knocked out the last knight.   After a tense conversation between Baradin and Takemura, Takemura agreed that for the time being, he would not take any more lives, even though as warriors, they should be prepared to give their lives to do their job. Upstairs, they found a small study and searched for incriminating evidence, but only found a ledger containing purhcases of alchemical supplies. They then found a locked door and Nitt attempted to unlock it and managed to do so but at the cost of being badly injured by a poison gas trap in the lock. Inside the room, they found a sick boy. At the same time, Omen found a dryad held captive in one of the towers. Speaking to her, they learned she knew Denivas and had been put in the tower because "she was in the way". Nitt then helped Omen to dispel the magic around her, letting her free and in return she gave the party a Potion of Greater Healing.   They spoke to the boy and found he was affected by necromancy and that he was Caym, son of Valera Denivas. He was being fed by the mage and taken care of by them. His mother was also trying many medicines on him. They then, with some comments from Takemura that they needed to hurry, went outside and investigated a black stone building inside the courtyard.   Inside it they found a tomb with two sarcophagi and two plaques, one blank and the other with the following text:
  • Bloodpurge, found in the muddy waters of marshlands.
  • Blueglow Moss, from the fallen dynasties of high magic.
  • Dathlil, its white flower falling over temperate plains.
  • Fleshwort, in the remnants of great battlefields soaked in blood.
  • Ghostroot, the bleached growth of arctic forests.
  • Yarberry, bringing a bright red shade to dry wastelands.
  •   Omen knew that bloodpurge can be used to cure minor poisons. They then discussed kidnapping Caym to try to blackmail Valera. As Omen wrote Bloodpurge on the blank plaque, poison gas began seeping into the room, but Maro blocked it with a wind wall. Omen then had everyone leave and tried all of the ones until finding Yarberry being the correct answer as the floor descended into a stairscase. They descended downstairs into a larger tomb with two pillars covered in silver engravings. On each pillar was a tiny alcove where something could be placed and the bottom could be shifted and a shutter could close in front of it.   When they placed a candle in each, the shutter closed in front of the alcove, and once both were closed, a minute passed and they reopened, the candles were gone. The session ended just after this revelation.
