Session 58: Escape the Tar Prisons Report

General Summary

The party gathered in the mess hall in the Tar Prison in lower Niduin, where they sought to free a mage called Ironhand. As they had been told Ironhand was is solitary confinement, they made their way to the Isolation Ward, where they found five metal doors and cells, each with latches that allowed something to be moved through the door, but not giving an opening into the room. Seeing how the doors were locked, Nitt went to work on a door while Omen ei' Taure grabbed a key that was left by the knights on the other side of the room containing the other cells. As Omen was returning, they checked the room that Nitt managed to open, and realized the cells were covered in an Antimagic Field and that the key Omen found didn't fit the isolation cells.
Omen spent some time running around the cell blocks, and found a person they were looking for, Joy, a strangelt clad girl that they had met once before. As he freed Joy, Maro Rei 'Sky' also broke out a battle-scarred dwarf named Kagain, who Arten Veronica Lagurdo as a famed mercenary with nicknames such as The Blood Dwarf or The Scream Hunter.
In the Isolation Ward, with the help of Joy, Nitt managed to open most of the cells, getting Ironhand out, as well as a black haired high-elf wearing shackles and a muzzle. Freed and noticing their lack of an escape plan, Ironhand suggested that if they removed the shackles limiting his spellcasting, provide with some material components, and buy enough time for the spell, he could use a Teleportation Circle to get them to his tower on the edge of the city.
During this time, the knights that were guarding the prison had regrouped and had time to call reinforcement and began their incursion into the downstairs where the party were holed up and a combat to protect Ironhand began.
As the knights rushed in, Omen scared the first two, but others broke through, so Eldon cast Hold Person on them. A priest of the knights cast a Dawn in the mess hall, hitting most of the party and their allies, as well as some unconscious knights left in the mess hall from the last session that was outside the vision of the priest. Nitt also created a thick wall, blocking the entrance to the mess hall from the prison blocks by making a Major Image real using his mastery over illusion magic.
Kagain and the muzzled elf then rushed toward the guards, while Jaheira cast a Mass Cure Wounds to reverse the damage of the Dawn spell. Omen came to assist Kagain and managed to end the priest's concentration on the Dawn.
As Arten, Kagain, the elf, and Omen continued the charge towards the east stairs, Omen was banished by the priest and a mage moved around the corner, hitting several of them with a Chain Lightning. In response, Takemura Yoshiro fired a volley of Scorching Rays at the mage, dealing heavy damage.
At the same time, the knights managed to break through Nitt's wall to the south, getting an entrance into the mess hall and the mage to the east Counterspelled Eldon's Chain Lightning.
Arten landed a stunning blow of Divine Smites on one of the knights and Jaheira created a Wall of Fire on the hole that the knights had broken through in the south before the session ended.

Notes

To create further distraction, the party freed all prisoners, including a famous mercenary called Kagain, a high-elf druid named Jaheira, and another high-elf bound by shackles and wearing a muzzle whose name the party has yet to learn.
