Session 55: Roots and Baths Report

General Summary

The session began as the characters gathered for breakfast in the tavern of The Spider's Sting in the Debtford district that is part of the undercity of Niduin. To gather information regarding the districts other than the Rhunmeth Quarter, the party spoke with the bartender of the tavern. They asked for ways that they could get to the High Houses and if the ceiling separating the upper and lower district was to accommodate races sensitive to the sunlight. The bartender responded that the ceiling was not meant as protection, but as a means of segregation, and that if they wanted to get more information, they could head to the Dancing Dolphin's House in the Lum'el Markets to the north, past the Malthem Grove, where most of the inhabitants of Debtford worked.   The party passed the gates, though, the Malthem Grove, which is where the roots of the massive trees of the city are found, and veins of golden sap spread across the trunks. Past the grove, they entered the colorful Lum'el Markets, filled with bioluminescent plantlife between the market stalls and strange stores.   Well in the markets, the party had an encounter. On the road, a young boy clad in a hooded cloak ran towards the party. Two knights of the golden leaf followed the boy, yelling at the party to stop the boy. Omen ei' Taure grabs the boy as he runs past and stares him in the eye, asking "What did you do?". In response, the boy said they had done nothing wrong, convincingly. As the guards approached, Omen decided to make a move, grabbing the boy and running away with extreme speed. Reacting to this, Arten Veronica Lagurdo begins running in the opposite direction, whilst the rest of the party remained.   Seeing that the tabaxi was much faster than them, the guards stopped and questioned the remaining people, asking them where Omen would head. The party said they were unsure, but could contact him. At the same time, Nitt managed to deceive the guards, saying he was not part of the group and did not know the tabaxi. The guards told the remainder that the boy was a part of the Rust Monsters, a dangerous organization that had recently burnt down an entire manor, killing the entire family.   Maro Rei 'Sky', Eldon Caufield, Takemura Yoshiro, and Baradin Godchosen followed the guards to a nearby barracks, whilst Arten, Omen, and Nitt met back up in the alleyways of the district. There, Omen questioned the boy, whose name was Gideon. Gideon explained that he was wanted for unfair reasons and that the blame was placed on him by someone else. If they wished to know more, he could take them to the rust monsters. Omen agreed to this and he, Arten, and Nitt followed Gideon to their hideout.   There, they were told to wait while Gideon spoke with the rest since he knew them. Omen instead, asked Nitt to turn him invisible and he would follow Gideon. Following him, Omen passed a trapped corridor until they reached a door. Gideon knocked on the door and opening it was a half-elven female with shoulder-short black hair swept to the side that Omen identified as Cora, a person they had briefly met earlier in the campaign before the Merlegos revolution. As he saw Cora, Omen spoke out to her and she briefly responded before another person tried knocking Omen prone, however, he managed to keep his balance. The other person was an elven woman with blonde hair and shaved side and the right side of her face was badly burnt. This woman told Omen to back off as they did not like uninvited guests. Omen complied and returned to the room where the other two were waiting for him.   After this, they were taken to the trapped corridor, where the elven woman spoke with them. She asked who they were and what they wanted. The three responded that they came from the Jozu Dynasty and wanted to gather allies in Niduin and figure out what had happened to the envoy previously sent by the dynasty. The woman, called Eleesa, responded that she could help with both those things, if they helped the rust monsters in return, and as a guarantee, left an item. Omen decided to leave his Staff of Swarming Insects. The woman told them that Gideon could show them a way to get to the upper city and that the envoy had been taken in by the Luthinen family, of the Prism Houses and was staying in the Golden Seas Bathhouse. If they could remove the envoy from the situation, it would take power from the Prism Houses, which would equalize the playing field, since they would lose the "approval" of the dynasty.   In the meantime, Eldon was casting Sending to contact Omen and those at the barracks left their real names to the guards. They also told the guards that Luke Wright in the Blue Sky Bakery was their contact. After about an hour, the other three managed to get to the barracks and Omen entered and had to pay a fine for his assistance in the escape of a criminal.   Having dealt with that escapade, before going to the upper city, headed to the Black Frog Emporium, a trinket store with a lot of different items for sale, including some magical items. There, Maro bought 2 Potions of Healing and Eldon managed to get the owner, a black grung called Bo'ob [Bo-ob] to, not sell a Trident of Fish Command until Eldon could buy it.   After that, the party went with Gideon, taking an abandoned elevator to the upper city and showing the way to the bathhouse. There, the party paid quite the sum to use the bath for all of them for the day and to rent the last two suites available upstairs. With this, the party spent some time in the bath before discussing how to find where the envoy, Takemura's master, Lord Nobunaga was. After some time, they decided to use their Scrying Orb combined with Maro knocking on the correct door on his first try to find the room that the lord was in.   With this info, Takemura approached the door and knocked, saying it was him. In response, the lord let them into the room, which also housed two bronze statues with large swords. The characters spoke with the lord, and Omen decided to cast Detect Magic and found that the lord was affected by some Necromantic magic. Spreading this information around and noticing that the lord was acting somewhat strange, Nitt decided to cast Dispel Magic on Nobunaga. Although the spell failed, the lord seemed to be affected and staggered to grab something to stay standing. As this happened, the two bronze statues in the room drew their blades, as well as Takemura.   As combat went on, Omen disabled Takemura's movements until Maro stopped him, instead grabbing Omen. Eldon restrained Nobunaga, whilst Arten and Nitt focused on dispelling the magic on him, with Arten failing before, on the third attempt, Nitt managed to dispel the magic and Nobunaga went limp. After some rounds, as the party defeated the automatons, the knights who had been keeping watch outside entered, telling them to stand down and tell them what happened here.
