Session 52: The Golden Road Report

General Summary

The session began in Oritsu, where the characters prepared to head south towards Niduin. First they went by boat and on it, Omen ei' Taure discussed with Arten Veronica Lagurdo her opinions on why she wanted to battle so much. She said that through battle, you could discern people's true colors. Omen also asked Baradin Godchosen if he knew some "smoking mountain" (volcano) in a tropical area, but he did not.   They took the boat to Shin'nen and from there went to Zephyr, where they wandered up towards the highest peak. On the way, they were greeted by the Daora that asked if they came to prove themselves before it. Alone, they would climb to the peak using their abilities and skills, without using flight or such, instead they should prove their determination and willpower.   Eldon Caufield, Maro Rei 'Sky', Baradin, Omen, and Takemura Yoshiro climbed to the peak, past the clouds, and got an extraordinary view of a sea of rainclouds. As he succeeded, Maro was granted the Mark of Air, and they were told where to find the next dragon on this quest: "The ruler of Frost and Cold. Royal and Magnificent, find this dragon at the base of the tallest peak near the white plains that the surrounded by mountains."   After this, they returned to Shin'nen and found Marble, a Duramboros that pulled the party's carriage. In Shin'nen, Arten sent two letters. Next to her was a dark-grey tent, out from which stepped Xûr. "The seven has observed your potential and I give you this to hold unto until the time is right." Xûr said as they gave the characters a medallion with a green gem and the following text "To never forget or forgive. For the greatest sin of all is to forget those who stood above all others." The characters then questioned what the seven were, to which Xûr answered that they could not explain it to them. They also said that the seven had come from elsewhere, but had always been here. If they wanted to find Xûr again, they could return to the place of their base, where the party could again peruse their wares. After the conversation, Xûr entered the tent which folded into itself.   The party identified the medallion and found that something could tell its location and discussed dropping it, but Omen decided to keep it for the time being.   On the road, Nitt used the mirror of the past on the medallion but only saw the moment the medallion was given to them. After that, he attempted to use the mirror on Xûr themself and saw an infinitely splitting vision of Xûr selling wares in different places, similarly to how the party first met them. Nitt also used the mirror of the past on the Cube of Thávma and his dagger. From the cube he saw a black-skinned tiefling together with another person, their features hidden, both holding the cube. The vision then shifted to the black-skinned tiefling holding the other person, bleeding in their arms and a set of 6 red eyes opened behind them. When used on the dagger, he instead saw a religious following or cult in a church with the symbol of Cyric, The Dark Sun. The dagger was used for ritual sacrifice, but as time went on, it became a tool for the members of the cult to betray and kill each other, until none were left.   On the road, the party met a tabaxi caravan and bought some drugs and magical items, by trading one of their Terxza mushrooms and the decorative golden mask with an opal they found in Western Sethren.   Some days after this, they found the place where the dynasty envoy carriage had been attacked. They found a sword engraved with Takemura's master's heraldry and following a cart trail, they found a burnt pile of wood and corpses thrown down the side of a coastal cliff. The party prepared a more proper pyre and Takemura threw a paper strip at it and set it on fire before Baradin incinerated it using a Firestorm.   Once again, some days later they arrived near the city of golden leaves. They prepared a plan of entry, Arten was a princess from Ishkar and had come to the city to trade magical items (weapons). Nitt was her accountant, Eldon was her bard, Takemura, Maro, and Omen were bodyguards and Baradin was a squire of Omen. Trying to enter, the cart was intensely searched by the guards, but they managed to get inside.   In the Rhunmeth quarter, the outer city, they went and rented a house at the Circle Square for 5 gp a night before setting out and exploring the city.
