Session 46: Devotion and Hatred Report

General Summary

The session started with the continue fight against the powerful celestial which the party identified as Ivalaan, The Devoted of the Union of Love inside the key sanctuary found in the Green Fields. Both sides kept staying on the defensive, using buffs, debuffs, and healing, with Ivalaan making use of his movement abilities to keep well out of reach of most of the characters. To gain an upper hand, Baradin Godchosen used his Divine Intervention, which since the fight was currently in the domain of Yondalla, The Nurturing Matriarch, called her avatar to aid in the fight. However, this seemingly made Ivalaan change their objective, swapping from striking the characters with mighty blows, and instead trying to grapple the avatar. After a failed first attempt at grappling and bringing the avatar with them as he teleported, Ivalaan instead attempted to bring the avatar with them in a Plane Shift but failed once again, and alone left the battlefield.   Somewhat stunned by the abrupt disappearance of their foe, the party gathered their thoughts and then decided to use the Planar rod that was left for them in the chamber, supposedly leading to the key they were searching for.   The rod brought the characters to a valley of dour gray stone, looking strangely unnatural with strange protrusions jutting out of the pockmarked hills. In front of them, however, was a distant city, if a small one, consisting of simple stone huts, and at one end of the town is a cone-shaped mountain, with more huts built into its sides. The sky above was a pitch-black void with scattered pockmarked cubes moving across it.   The party approached the city, and attempted to converse with some locals but found only hostility and disdain. Changing some demeanors, they instead tried threatening, and almost started a brawl but managed to get some minor directions. Now wandering deeper into the city, looking for the "Auction House" on Helix Avenue, the characters notice the complete lack of any vegetation in this place, as bushes, trees, and even grass are missing. Only cold, rough stone until they eventually reach the two streets that occasionally cross each other which signifies Helix Avenue.   Following these larger streets, they notice some structures that stand out from the rest. The first being a fighting arena, with a central stone glowing and sparking with electricity, an ongoing fight being commentated over as they pass by. Near the arena is also, a two-story building surrounded by an outer-wall covered in rusted iron spikes, decorated with a smattering of different skulls and bones. Haphazardly carved into the arched entrance of the wall to the building is: "The Orphanage".   Intrigued, but somewhat doubtful, the characters briefly discuss to enter the orphanage, but choose not to. As they continue to the central plaza of the avenue, they pass a blacksmith called Upkeep when they finally find the Grand Auction House of Jagaduth. Seemingly one of the only decorated buildings in the city, the inside of the auction house was quite nice, some laborer currently working on "bricking" the floor. Approaching a reception desk, the character speak with Elixidor Thelvyn Ceynescith about the person they are looking for that left them the planar rod back in the Green Fields. Elixidor said that in exchange for auctioning off an item that would entice many people, they would tell the party where they might find the "ruler of jagaduth" that Elixidor believes has what they are looking for. Not entirely tempted by the offer, Elixidor says the character might also try their luck at the Orphanage, or at the Deadzone.   Investigating further at the Orphanage and Deadzone, they learn that "The Queen", the leader of the Orphanage wants a person killed, called Kadik, The Iron Shadow, and going over to the Deadzone and speaking with an old scribe at the front, learned that the "reapers" or "dustmen" also want Kadik dead, but also want Kadik's body.   Pondering to kill Kadik, show him to the Orphanage, and then bringing the body to the Deadzone, the character accepted the deal from the Orphanage, who bring the party to the dead drop that Kadik uses. Investigating the building, the characters find a secret entrance, after triggering an explosive trap, bringing them to a bedroom, likely belonging to Kadik. In the bedroom is a large metal door, and testing the lock, they find that the door is somehow being electrocuted. After much deliberation and distraction, Omen ei' Taure decides to simply destroy the door, and recieving quite the shock of electicity in the meantime. Behind the door, they find metal wires strung around the room, and would make it difficult to navigate, but with the help of Cathrine De Clair Antebellius's Newt they manage to disable the charge pulsing through the wires. While testing the door, the character also found that non-magical metal turned to stone, doing so more quickly the closer it was to the ground.   Continuing down a staricase, the characters find another thick metal door, and next to it, a large chamber inside of which sits Kadik. Combat ensues and Kadik summons shadow creatures that the characters quickly deal with. On his body, the party finds a remote able to turn on and off the charge of the wires upstairs, but also open the metal door nearby. Behind the door, the characters found an opening filled with water, leading below the ground into a massive cavern containing another city below Jagaduth.
