Cathrine's Findings Two-Shot Report 2

General Summary

After exploring the Wright family villa and defeating who the party suspect might have been Ander Wright in Cathrine's Findings Two-Shot Report 1, they decided to try and head toward the south-eastern part of the Dimeo district trying to find the home of Cathrine De Clair Antebellius's parents. Before this, however, Cathrine realized they should also try to find the hideout under the Library of Conviction.   Arriving where the library once stood, they found naught but a burned pile of rubble and ash. After discussing some ideas, they decided to continue to Cathrine's parents' home before acting on anything. Arriving at the home, they found it among a neighborhood of ruined houses, it too having been reduced to rubble. Searching through the remains were two commoners. As the party arrived, they spoke out to the scavengers, and one of them called for the guards in response. Swiftly, the characters reacted, slaying the one calling for guards and shortly after ridding themselves of the other. With a short time limit, the party made plans for hiding while Cathrine was allowed to search through the rubble. Ash and Osvald hid in an alcove created by Ash by using Shape Stone on the road to make a hiding space. Kajafas hid among the rooftops and Elvis set up an extradimensional hiding place using a Rope Trick.   As guards were arriving, Cathrine finally made some discovery, the upper parts of a charred body, completely unidentifiable. Having to run swiftly from the guards, Cathrine managed to escape but the guards were not completely off the trail, beginning to search through the area, long enough for the Rope Trick to wear off, forcing Cathrine and Elvis to jump to a nearby rooftop, get fired on and run away from the area, trying to find another hiding place. Several hours later, the five managed to regroup at the house, and attempted once more to identify the body but to no avail. With little to go on, they decided to head back to the library. There, Osvald caused a distraction using a magical motorbike while Ash summoned an Earth Elemental that dug through the rubble inside of Kajafas' Silence spell. With this, they managed to get into the hideout where Cathrine gathered some leftover currency that her friends had left behind, taking some for herself and paying the others with the remainder. Exhausted, the five headed back to the Opulent Palace and rested for the rest of the day.   The following day, the five set out deciding to head to a barracks outside the walls in the Colmedan district. This barracks was their target for investigation due to the Corelus Legion guards having acted strangely even before the attack on the city when the cult began their mind control of the guard force. Thus they scaled the walls of the inner district and headed to the barracks. Breaking their way into the barracks, they engaged in combat against the guards there, which after a minute ended with the slaughter of every single guard that defended the barracks. After searching through the building, specifically the downstairs prison, finding a torture chamber and happening upon an illusionary wall. Behind the wall was a small chamber with a magical circle featuring five skulls, emanating some unknown magic, though Ash identified the circle to be focused around the schools of Enchantment, Divination, and Necromancy. After breaking one of the skulls, causing a blast of energy to release from it, damaging Osvald and Kajafas, they backed out before destroying the remaining skulls as the magic ceased, though with no apparent change around them.   Having finished their mission, they returned to the palace and took a rest. After their rest, they were taken to the resistance hideout in the pump room of the Coral Bathhouse. There, they were greeted by Lara a half-orc member of the Corelus Legion that had resisted the mind control before speaking with Kagiyama Aoi, a member of Mirume and informant for the Jozu Dynasty. While reporting their findings to Aoi, another person knocked the secret code on the doorway to the hideout and Lara left to open it. The party then continued their report and planning when they noticed how a candle in the hideout started flickering heavily before going out. At the same time, they began hearing heavy footsteps of an armored figure descending the staircase to the hideout.   As Ash and Osvald created magical sources of light, they could see arriving at the edge of their vision a humanoid figure, clad in samurai-style heavy plate armor, wearing a demonic white mask, two long black horns growing from the forehead, almost from beneath the mask. The figure also held a spherical object in their hand, that they threw unto the floor, revealing it as Lara's decapitated head. As combat ensued, the party quickly realized they were out of their league as they easily downed Ash and Elvis. Thus, Cathrine planted an explosive on the wall near the pumps, blowing a hole in the city's canal. While Osvald tried his best to delay the figure, it was able to send slicing winds, managing to cut off Cathrine's arm and divide it into three bloody parts.   As Osvald continued to stall the figure, Ash was brought back to consciousness and Ash, Aoi, Cathrine, and Kajafas managed to escape into the canal, leaving Osvald to heroically fight against the figure alone. At the same time, Elvis lay unconscious on the slowly water-filling floor of the pump room. With this, the session and two-shot ended.
