The Dorian Ironclads

The Dorian Ironclads are the elite royal guard units of the Dorian Clan, ruling family of Anvil.  They draw their ranks from the sons and daughters of the clan who are far from the line of succession, but are too important to risk being in riskier frontline guard or military positions.
The Ironclads are small units of elite infantry, armed with large shields, one handed weapons (most often axes but it depends upon the individuals preference and skills) and crossbows.  What sets them apart from other elite infantry however, is their armor.  The Ironclads are among the most heavily armored units in all the world.
Despite their name, their armor is made from the finest steel that the Kingdom of the Anvil is capable of crafting, richly enchanted to increase the durability and defenses and to decrease the burden of the armor.  Likewise, their shields are also enchanted to be nearly indestructible.  The shields and armor of the King's Ironclads are further enchanted, seemingly making them nearly untouchable.  Ironclads almost always wield a family heirloom weapon, and while some of these may include a larger two handed weapon, they are also always equipped with a one handed weapon for formation fighting.
Like most elite infantry, the Ironclads are skilled, disciplined and fearless.  Since their ranks are drawn from noble dwarven families, they also tend to be well educated and connected.  So much so that in the Anvil, a noble's Ironclads are often trusted to serve minor roles as messengers, diplomats,  advisors and even proxies in less important meetings.  As such, being an ironclad is viewed as a very honorable position for children who are not heirs and whom desire martial training alongside their education.  An ironclad from an allied family can often stem from a wardship, and can be used as a method of diplomatic exchange internally within the mountain kingdom.
