Humans — Original / "Pure" / "True" Humans

To Forgive Is Err, To Human Is Divine

To forgive is err, To Human is divine.
— proverb from the Book of the Law

The Twenty-first Century changed humanity in radical ways that millions of years of evolution could not. The species known as H. sapiens sapiens, heir to the world when the Neanderthals disappeared and merged with their relatives, still remains. But like its high-browed cousins, the original subspecies finds itself greatly diminished and no longer at the top. There are three major reasons why many humans remained unaltered.   The first reason is simply that of choice. Just as the Amish in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries shunned Industrial Age and later technology, so the modern Purists shun the electronic, mechanical, and biotechnical advances of today. And perhaps more than the Amish, the Purists have taken on a haughty form of spirituality which shuns and judges the rest of the remaining human species. A new collection of scriptures were penned and appended to various existing holy texts. Among these are the Book of Successors—which records the history of the rise of the new human subspecies through the lens of the Humans—and the Book of the Law—which asserts itself as the infallible ethical system for all of the original, unaltered Homo sapiens sapiens.   The second reason for remaining in the original species is a matter of accessibility. Most often, the poorest and most exploited were not given opportunity to acquire biotechnical or genetic enhancements.   The third reason for remaining human, however, is the most sinister. There are many confirmed reports of human trafficking, slavery, and even “farming,” most notably among the Outcast communities which feed off of human flesh or minds. Other humanoids have enslaved original humans for labor. Yet others keep the humans as pets or for zoological preservation as humans once kept and bred endangered animals. Ironically, the genetic revolution brought on by the Adepts has recreated and recovered extinct animals, but doing so with original humans only creates more genetically grown H. sapiens novum, not H. sapiens sapiens, making original humans the rarest, most endangered creature of all.   Despite the comparison with the earlier Amish communities, today’s modern humans are not adverse to technology. Some even benefit from genetic and technological goods and services. It is just that their original genome remains unaltered. Though not as endangered as the Neanderthals were when their cousins arrived in Europe, the future of H. sapiens sapiens is uncertain since the modern world has become more difficult to live in without enhancements. Perhaps, like their ancestors, they will eventually interbreed and disappear into one of the newer subspecies.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

It should be noted that by the year 2100 C.E., one common term used to denote H. sapiens sapiens as "Pure Humans" has nothing to do with the barbaric and primitive usage of the mid-Twentieth Century Nazism or White Supremacy. At this time, any human whose original DNA has remained natural and unaltered, by either choice or circumstance, is often referred to the autonym a "Pure Human" to mean "untouched by technology or other unnatural means" (which includes the little understood Psychic abilities).   That being said, the racism of the Twentieth and early Twenty-first Centuries has been replaced with subspeciesism, which proves to be just as ugly and violent.
