Chelor Dun
History
"Chelor Dun" refers both to the cataclysmic reawakening of Chelor , and the prophecy & rituals required to complete it. The overall goal is to release Chelor from the underworld through the powers of a special Avatar that would become part of Chelor himself. The prophecy was written by Chelorans soon after The Fall of Chelor. Chelor and his followers are more drawn to the caves of Lient'roc than many Kraa'thomites, and have been known to use certain caverns as worship places. According to legend, Chelor is trapped in a cavern deep beneath Kraalo. The instructions are carved into the walls of Senot Tik in a special piter-reactive ink that only becomes visible under piter-light.Prophecy
Behind the walls that claim and bind,A future falls to raise the fallen high.
To lift the outcast from his cage of stone,
Entrants forsake themselves, their fates entwined.
The poison light will burn inside,
Will quarry neck and stone with frightful speed,
Unearthing iron veins in gleaming form,
In one who shines, and denies death its claim.
They wield the tri-fold power of Chelor:
A force of will that spills from tongue and hand.
A sight that peers beyond the seen's dark bounds,
An endless vigil of unspeaking night.
From below, the light shall scorch the abject,
Shall inter disciples in earth's heated tomb.
The godly power in virtuous veins must spill,
And pulse through hollow stone and root.
Like Kren-sap nectar, it shall darkly fall,
The solvent of his lifeless cage.
The waters of his birth will meet the sky,
Fraternity of opposites joined in strife.
No chains of metal or rope shall tightly bind,
The force that ties us to the earth shall break.
The land, once whole, at once will rend,
A mirror of the sundered planes.
Shadows, fear, and flame shall sing,
Yet power, warmth, release contend.
Divine devices summon lightning's touch,
Through channeled veins of rock below.
Until the poison of light consumes all life,
And in its swallowing, becomes all strife.
Idioms & Local Knowledge
- "Poison of light" / "poisoned light" / "light from below"
These phrases all use the same root word in the Chelu-kaan dialect; piterna. It comes from the word piter, which is the glowing mineral found in Lient'roc that is often used to create lamps safe for use underground. Piterna in common usage in Chelu-ka refers to the light that a piter lamp emits, a soft warm color. - "... In one who shines, and denies death its claim."
This is a play on words -- this particular word for "shine" sounds very similar to "die" in the Chelu-kaan language. It also uses the "piter" root word when referring to this shining/glowing. - "... Kren-sap nectar"
Kren-sap is a Chelu-kaan liquor with invigorating properties. A bright yellow in color, a single shot of this herbaceous concoction can keep you awake for hours, even when you are extremely tired. Long-term usage can result in bitterness & anger issues. - "... the waters of his birth"
This refers to Kraalo, the lake next to Chelu-ka where Kraa'thom and Chelor were born, according to legend. - "... fraternity of opposites"
In the Chelu-kaan dialect, this phrase is simply "Kelnfroc". In literal terms, it refers to the individual differences among family members. It is often used when describing Kraa'thom and Chelor, two brothers who seem to have opposite alignments. - "... Divine devices"
Both brothers are said to have been inspired inventors, a trait shared by many of the Chelu-kaan.
