Order of the Rose

One of the three main branches from the order of paladins, The Rose are those who believe that life is worth protecting from all forms of supernatural threat possible. They ride to defeat the evil that lurks from within graveyards, within the pits of hell, and to bring back to rest those who need to remain at rest. Unlike other paladins, they do not focus only upon the aspects of good and law, but upon the natural law of the world.

Structure

When starting in the organization, with or without combat experience, one is expected to become a Hand for at least six months. After six months of study, the hand can participate in a practical exam, fighting one of the thorns, to ensure that both the thorn is capable of teaching the hand how to fight the undead, and to ensure that the hand is ready for field experience against the most basic of undead. If they pass, they are given a mission, and the supplies or people necessary to accomplish that mission. Usually under the tutelage of a Knight. Once they complete that mission there is a small ceremony, and they become a Thorn of the Rose. After becoming a thorn, the prospective squire must accomplish either ten missions for the order, or bring proof of vanquishing ten foes on a mission. Though this is not a requirement, many knights are asked to wait until they show this proof before the next stage. At that point, a thorn may approach a Knight and ask him to be his squire (at the descretion of a knight, he does not have to take a squire if he does not wish too.) If the knight excepts, he shall train the squire and bring him along to fight alongside him. Once the knight excepts, at that point does a Thorn become a Squire, however, he shall still be called a "Thorn" until one attains Knighthood. Once one is Squired, it is upon the Squire himself to uphold himself with Valor, Courage, Gallantry, and uphold the Paladain code with honor until he is determined by the rose, for any reason, to become a Knight of the Rose. At that point, they are given A noble title, and the highest priest who can do so shall be called to bring the squire into "The Knight of the Rose." After at least 10 years of dedicated service as a knight to the Order of the rose, and has vanquished no less then 100 in the name of upholding the natural law of the world, the current Rose may decide to bring a knight into their ranks. They base this decision off of the knowledge of the knight in different forms of combat, the enemies of the living, and his ability to lead those beneath him to victory, while still following the code with honor. Some say there is a private ceremony, followed by huge parties that everyone down to the lowliest hand will attend.

History

Formed by Sylvia Rose, a paladin in present day Cinerosa, as a way to help repeal attacks against commonfolk while the focus was on dragon fighting at the time.
