The World Serpent Inn
A Planehopping tavern with small entrances across the multiverse. It has three rules: drinks aren't free, don't attack staff, and only attack patrons in authorized areas.
If you find yourself wandering the planes and see a door with an iron knocker sculpted in the aspect of a serpent eating its own tail, you may have just found the most unusual bar in the multiverse.
The door to The World Serpent Inn can manifest anywhere in existence, although it most often appears in the doorway of the local equivalent of a pub. It manifests in the same location on each plane when it does appear. For instance, on the Prime world of Toril it always appears in the doorway of the Wild Goose tavern in Arabel, Cormyr. If you knock on the door when it is active and invoke the name of a god you will find the World Serpent on the other side. Another manifestation on the Prime world of Eberron opens in the doorway of the Queen's Kiss, a flower shop in the city of Fairhaven, while yet another manifests as a small cottage outside of the Gatetown of Ecstasy in the Outlands. Each sundown the main entrance opens into a random Domain of Dread. It is said that Krynn's doorway was destroyed in the Cataclysm, transporting those who exit the Inn onto this world being taken backwards in time. Once they step out of a snake- marked portal, the heroes of the multiverse meet here for drinks alongside the lost, the seekers, the bubbers, and even the gods.
Visuals
A light-bluish haze floats over the World Serpent Inn's impossibly vast commons room, exposing all invisible and incorporeal entities while ensuring that every table retains some privacy from any other. Magic is impeded within the inn, rendering most spells difficult to cast and completely nullifying any effect which would deal damage, summon creatures, or render an entity invisible. This suppressive magic also has restorative effects, causing creatures within the commons to regain 5 hit points every turn.People
The barkeep is a large, human-looking man with flushed cheeks and a thick white beard made of tiny snakes. People call him Mitchifer, and while he never seems to leave the bar this jolly soul always takes a few moment to make sure that newcomers know the rules. The Serpent Staff is composed of fairling gnomes dressed in uniforms of indigo snakeskin. No one has ever seen them drop a tray, no matter how chaotic the Common Room gets. Many refugees and rootless planeswalkers have taken up residence in the Inn and now supplement the staff. Some frequent auxil- iaries include the bedraggled rakshasa Krashka of Khorvaire; Astrid K'tel a spelljamming gnome from Krynnspace; and the Dread Reaver, a neogi said to be fleeing what passes for justice among his people. The Dread Reaver runs a lucrative betting ring around the Brawling Pit for those who wish to gamble on combatants. The Walls, flood, and beams overhead are reputedly cut from the Yggdrasil itself. A massive circular bar sits in the center of the commons, sporting alcohols from across the planes. Chant is that the trapdoor to the beer cellar actually leads to the wine cellar of some god of revelry. The back halls leading away from the Common Room shift and change seemingly of their own accord, opening into myriad planes and times. Their durations and destinations are random, as is the possibility of return. Some say the halls always lead a traveler to the portal they need, while others speak of errant ghosts and marauding vampires who haunt the labyrinth. These back halls bring an ever changing kaleidoscope of worlds within reach for the canny planewalker who gains access to them.
