Dwarven Clans of the Utrimar Kingdom
The dwarves of the Blubbermountain have always formed themselves into clans. These clans originated at the moment when the first dwarves arrived on the continent. These first few dwarves all went their own ways and explored the mountains, looking for a suitable place to found their cities.
Structure
All the dwarven clan have their own ways of determining who their clan Elder should be. Some of the clans have a hereditary system, with the eldest child of the current elder inherting the position. While other clans might have a ritual to determine who the next Elder will be and preparing this person for his or her future role.
While being born into a clan is most likely the way to belong to a certain clan, some clans adopt other dwarves / persons.

History
Most of the clans can trace each other's family lines back a single family arriving on the continent, in theory. The Subjugation Wars have destroyed practically every written account of the dwarves' history.
But other clans have formed over time, sometimes splitting off from another clan, or arriving from another continent.
