The Reckoning/Degrading of Likova (Lick-oh-vah)

Five hundred years ago, the Likovan Empire ruled the Island Continent. Six provinces shared the island: Shevuz, Poyast, Odsemu, Miokaunt, Busola, and Chokaunt. 
Upalo-Iv-Esa was Emperor Yuklid's right-hand. He was also Arch-Mage. Magic, in this time period, was limited to the manipulation of liquids. When the moon was full, Upalo and 6 of his followers rode to the Plains of Mestoll. His five followers sacrificed themselves when the moon was at its peak. With all the resources and skill, he removed all the water from the life on the island. It killed almost all vegetation and wildlife. Almost two thirds of the island population, including Emperor Yuklid, died of dehydration. A sandy desert was left in the wake. 
Upalo himself disappeared. It is thought that he died in the event.
Jessa-Ruvno rebuilt from the ruins that remained. The six provinces of the empire all withered into what would become the kingdoms of Doropo and Viem, a border enforced with a large wall spanning the entirety of Jessa-Ruvno.
