the Golden Lady

Waukeen is the goddess of trade and commerce, once highly venerated in Meloria due to its large trade sector. Now that many of its old trade partners are gone or find it difficult to trade, Waukeen is not as prominent as she used to be, but is still honored by many. Seen as a goddess with two sides like the golden coin that is her symbol, many refer to her only as the Merchant's Friend, or the Golden Lady, to appeal to her good side (depicted with a smiling face facing left on a golden coin). Her priests dress in gold or yellow, and are encouraged to be merchants or others who deal with commerce. She is said to be present during good haggling, especially when one of the sides is one of her favored.
However, as in trade, Waukeen has a dark side: she is also the patron of illicit trade, smuggling, and risk-taking in business. Her symbol in this role has the face pointing right. With her two sides, she represents and delights in the ebb and flow of trade, both in the ups and in the downs. She is closely linked to the Lady of Luck Tymora, who shares the coin symbol (although Tymora's coin depicts horseshoes instead of any actual visage).
Her temple in Meloria is the only one not in the Temple District, instead found at the intersection of the Furloin's exit to the Mercantile Sector. It is outfitted almost completely in yellow and gold, to represent the golden coins that she loves so much. Her symbol is an upright golden coin with the smiling face of the goddess facing left (or right). The face towards the left depicted her in her benevolent role as a friend to traders, and the right in her more malevolent role in smuggling and illicit trade.
