Biots

Biots (short for biological robots) are specialized nanomachines developed by Summers Industries for use in various medical fields. Due to unforeseen circumstances, however, they are not currently available for public use until further testing can be done on them.

Utility

The biots developed by Summers Industries were meant to be used in various medical settings. They could be programmed for any number of specialized tasks ranging from delivering drugs to specific cites to repairing tissue damage to destroying cancerous cells to even acting as a blood substitute for emergency transfusions. In addition, these biots are also capable of minor levels of controlled self-reproduction, though doing so temporarily takes away their medical capabilities.

Manufacturing

The process for manufacturing biots is currently a company secret, and is unlikely to be unveiled until further beta testing is completed. Rumors have abounded, though, that some rival companies are attempting to replicate the production of biots for their own purposes.
Inventor(s)
Biots were created by the biotechnology department of Summers Industries with extensive oversight and input from CEO Ted Summers.
Access & Availability
Summers Industries' biots were initially intended to be distributed to various hospitals and healthcare facilities across the globe. However, a few weeks before the official unveiling, Dr. Ferris Metcalf, the lead scientist on the project got into a horrific accident. With no other possibility of saving him, Ted Summers ordered doctors to use the biots to save him. He made a full recovery, but to everyone's shock, he started displaying technopathic abilities he didn't have previously. He could communicate with the biots and make them deviate from their normal programming. With this sudden twist of events, Summers was forced to pull the biots from the market before they could be sold in order to go back and conduct further study on what might have happened. This last-minute recall went over poorly with consumers and Summers Industries nearly went bankrupt from the fallout.
