When the gods created Erith they wove magic into its every fabric. This magic could be channeled into a controllable essence by symbols called Runes. In older times the ancient races happened upon some of these runes and started studying them. It wasn’t until many years later that they accidentally tapped into the power of these runes. Some people experimented with ways to incorporate these runes into their very being. However, the number of runes that had been found in ancient times was very small compared to the amount that has been found at this point in time. Runes are extremely complicated and the study of them has since then become a science that is taught and studied in The Pursuit of Knowledge. This is where books come into play. There are many runes that are integral to the existence of the planet, and thus cannot be moved, changed, or controlled by mortals. The immense power of these runes can be drawn upon anywhere in the world with complicated rituals and understanding of the fundamentals of the universe in which they exist. The best way to learn these rituals, and understand magic, is studying books and scrolls, as magicians throughout history have recorded what they have discovered and learned. Many runes have also been transcribed into texts to be shared with others far from where they were found.
