I just assumed that in a religious festival there would be some pretty firm precepts, so I wanted to be thorough

This is very well thought-out! Great job. The Bash sounds just a bit traumatic, but that's to be expected if one is fighting with fists only! :O

It is actually inspired by a tradition that occurred in Siena, but it was made illegal because once it degenerated in urban warfare. It was called "il gioco delle pugna" unfortunately documentation in any language but Italian is hard to source.

Huh, I've never heard of it! That would be pretty scary for urban warfare to start because of a group of street fighters. :O I don't speak Italian, so that's probably why I've never heard of it!

It was a medieval tradition that has gone gradually dwindling during the renaissance...

The Bash sounds terrifying to behold. It's amazing how much damage can be done with fists.
