Sweet Stone Material in Phaiyon | World Anvil

Sweet Stone

Please, do not lick the rocks or put them in your mouths.
— An exasperated archeologist.
This odd stone was discovered recently when a land surveyor fell into previously unknown ruins. Scientists have yet to fully understand its properties. To date, the ruins are the only location to contain this type of rock.

Properties

Sweet stone is durable and comes in shades of pink and purple. Its most striking property is the permanent sweet aroma. The source of the smell has yet to be discovered. Researchers are still unsure if the material was a result of a reality rift.   These rocks are not radioactive, don't dissolve in water or acid, nor do they contain any known metals or ores. They do appear to be magic grade and are a stable conduit for magical energy. It is safe to handle and presumed to be non toxic.

Uses

Other than building materials, sweet stone was used for other purposes within the ruins. Archeologists discovered arrow heads, jewelry, sculptures, toys, and potential ceremonial items created from this stone.   Another common item found were long, thin rods carved out of the material. Their purpose is unknown, but a common theory suggests a magical use. If the magic property came after The Great Shattering, their potential use would be even more unknown.

One of a Kind

Other sources of sweet stone have yet to be located. Its magic potential is sought after, but the ruins are protected. Scientists keep running experiments on different rocks in order to recreate it artificially. This is dangerous due to the nature of reality rifts; the distortion effects of the portals is their strongest lead.
