Golgarian Psimitar (sɪmɪtɑɹ / sɑɪmɪtɑɹ)

Fat Kid infiltrators for the Golgarian Hegemony are psionically enhance goblins in human skinsuits. Their psionic auras disrupt them from being properly photographed, or captured on video; offer protection from ballistics, impacts, and mundane weapons; and helped them to pass as actual human children. This is their primary defense and aids their hiding in plain sight.   However, the higher-ranking infiltrators are armed with psionic daggers; officer-ranked infiltrators are armed with psimitars.   Whereas psionic daggers have some semblance of reality, they disintegrate back into the æther when out of direct contact with their user/creator for too long (this varies, but not longer than a few minutes; the duration tied to the efficacy of the powers of the user). Psimitars, however, exist both in reality and in the psychic plane. Their duality allows them to be summoned and dismissed into what is euphemistically called "Hammer Space," instantly, preventing them being stolen, captured, destroyed, or simply existing as evidence of something otherworldly. And in the reverse, they can be called back into the mundane realm—and used very effectively there—instantly. This provides a problem in places where an infiltrator might have been searched for weapons. Psimitars' stability in both realms of existence has one drawback, however, they can be captured from a defeated enemy. If captured and then tied to their new user's mentality, it can be bound to them and its previous owner can no longer summon it.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The materials used to make the psimitar vary from maker to maker, but all are gorged and melded together with great amounts of psionic energy. Whilst the individual blades are not sentient at creation, a latent amount of sentience can develop as the blades take lives and are passed between masters, accumulated psychic impressions from each. The oldest psimitars can achieve sentience and in some most rare cases, their own agency.

History

Although the manufacture-creation of psimitars antedate the Golgarian Hegemony, as a weapon of its infiltration units, psimitars have become synonymous with that particular Rifter Faction.

Significance

The existence of a psimitar presumes powerful psionic builders, and, in the mundane realms, an incursion of otherworldly beings.   For those more familiar with the Rift, the presence of a psimitar means the Golgarian Hegemony is likely somehow involved.

As such individuals are themselves rare, there are a very limited number of psimitars in worlds linked by the Rift. Perhaps no more than 230 at any one time.   The Prophets of the Golgarian Hegemony, gift them to ascendant agents. Individual psimitars often are weighted with both historical baggage and psychic legacies of their myriad previous owners.

Raw materials & Components

Built/created from three primary elements—metal, crystal, and psionic energy—psimitars can only be forged by or in the presence of a powerful psionicist. The metals used can be rare or common, though the former is preferred: baukire, silver, platinum, and/or electrum. Crystals are chosen for their beauty, but psionic and/or magically enhanced are of course the ideal choices.
