Dhargen (dar-ghen)

Born from deep within the earth from the pain of the planet, Dhargen are bold and hardy skilled warriors, miners, and workers of stone and metal. Though they stand well under 5 feet tall, they are so broad and compact that they can weigh as much as a human. it Do not underestimate a Dhargen, everyone knows them for their grit and endurance that can match anyone with ease and a chuff.

Dhargen can live to be around 300 years old and are stubborn in tradition, passing forth their histories with the same purpose they carve their way through the earth. Back to the good ole days, to act upon their instincts; and protect the planet from the warring kinds above, the surface may be compromised but the insides are all theirs.

So it was with great anger that one of their largest cities, Thorrig, was to be exposed to the surface due to The Rupture caused by the greedy actions of others. Technology and vying for resources they have no claim to, this is the disgraceful ways of all that aren't Dhargen. This event only proved their seemingly stubborn stance. So it's with great aggravation for any Dhargen to work with another race, especially those of the erudite nature striving for advancing technologies and new ways - don't they see that is what led to the pain of their planet in the first place!

Animalians/Humans: The cause for all their aggravation, the main drive in their creation. For what they've done to hurt their planet's core, is inexcusable. And yet… the wars have simmered down, the deed is done and many Dhargen far from their roots now cannot recall what it is they fight for, after all the humans have far proven themselves crafty. Still, predator and prey, the Dhargen are far from domesticated wolves turned dogs, those instincts to snap are still there.

Elves: Believe them arrogant in how they like to look at humans and think themselves better for thinking differently, and not even in the same way Dhargen do either, which means they're also wrong. They're a good chunk of the problem after all, utilising magic and whatever else, when they should stick to what they were gifted within their natural forms - like the Dhargen and their fists to mine.

Appearance

  • Dhargen's skin ranges across any type of soil or stone found within the earth, with the more common being greys to browns.
  • Their hair grows in a single short patch on top of the head, worn in simple styles, are usually a darker or lighter shade of their skin tone.
  • It's their beards that they channel self-expression and pride, for it's through their length they show off one's skill in mining and forgery - to have such a handicap without catching it in a mining swing or singeing it in fire is impressive.
  • Yet their most startling features are their mustard-yellow sclera with specks of black for pupils for life in the dark
  • Their oddly slitted noses for scenting the earth for different metals - and to avoid the dangerous ones
  • And their ridged ears facing backwards to hear approaching danger behind them. It's jokingly said (not to their faces) that this is why they're so loud.
  • As well as their 6 fingered hands and their extremely dense and knobbed knuckles made for smashing straight through rock with a punch (who needs a pickaxe?)

Height & Weight: Average around 4 feet / 1.2 meters. Despite their height, their weight is around the average human's

Features

Sense of the Underground
Accustomed to life underground, they have superior senses in the dark. They can 'see' for a fair distance when in complete darkness. They cannot discern colour in any way as they are entirely colourblind and are only masters in discerning light changes. In fact, the way they 'see' is shared with their sense of smell, hence the unusual noses as well.

Combined with their backwards facing ears, it's fair to say Dhargen see the world differently in more ways than one, and that would be an understatement.

Stone Strikers
Dhargen are most well known for their knuckles, for they are the source of their mining, the mining which is their lifeblood. Knobbed and dense as if the bones have petrified within their knuckles, their 6 fingered hands pack an incredible punch.

Cores of the Earth
Due to their make from the earth, Dhargen have neutralising clay and charcoal-like stomachs, rendering most poisons ineffectual.
