Adelaide Peters

Played by: Alma (hufflep00f)

Adelaide had always had an affinity toward music and enjoyed singing and playing instruments in her free time. She was known well at the local YMCA and often found either on the piano or playing one of the old, well loved guitars.   June 1955 - Adelaide purchased her first guitar June 1956 - Fed up with being treated like a second rate citizen, Adelaide ran away from home and began hitchhiking her way around the USA, playing wherever she could to make a few dollars for food   During her cross-country trek, Adelaide stayed at local YMCA’s where available Traveled her way to California, playing and saving what she earned and ended up subletting a one bedroom that a family was renting out.   She never stayed anywhere too long before California, and life on the road really seemed to suit her.   She was kicked out of the occasional bar when they found out how young she was, but for the most part she managed well enough. She became pretty streetwise after all her years traveling alone and has met a wide variety of people and personalities, but there was always the love of music even on the worst day.

Personal history

Chrysalis

Adelaide didn’t really have anyone to help her through her Chrysalis. When she turned 20, she wandered into a local music store that caught her eye. She couldn't remember ever seeing the place before, and she sure as hell kept up on anything music related around town. This place just seemed to have appeared overnight and it called to her. She moved through the shop, touching and holding various instruments. There was a set of pan-pipes that she lingered over for a goodly length of time, but it was a guitar that finally called her attention and practically called for her to hold it. Each strum was perfect and something new and, dare she say it, magical.   That was all it took to awaken her faerie soul. She stood staring at the guitar, dumbfounded, and a gruff voice called to her from behind the counter. "Take it, kid... you'll be needing it far more than I ever will." Lifting her widened eyes, Adelaide remembered things she had seen in life at a much earlier age; things she had waved off as imagination and play. She remembered brief snippets and flashes from past lives. The Nocker Grump (Tom , if the employee of the month placard was to be believed) that stood looking at her offered no further explanation, either for what he himself looked like, nor what Adelaide now saw when looking at herself in the reflective mirror behind the counter. "Not my responsibility. Good luck. Get out." The Nocker muttered and waved her out of the store, guitar clutched in her hand. She turned almost as quickly as she stepped outside, but the entire storefront was gone and she stared at what looked to be a long abandoned shop; there was no sign that the music shop had ever been there.   Continued traveling the US until ending up in New York, where she became introduced to the local fae population and began to make herself at home.   Underwent her Saining once she’d settled in New York and was introduced to several of the local freehold and people of interest.   Wound up at Thackery's and got a fairly regular spot playing there while still busking on the streets and playing other local venues.   Will found out she didn’t have a place to actually call her own when dropping her ‘home’ one night and finding out she’d been staying in a sleazy pay-per-night motel. At his insistence, Adelaide has been staying with Will at his place ever since.   Addy's Remembrance: Storyteller's Discretion

Contacts & Relations

Addy's Dreamer contact is the singer Ellen Fuentes - who is a bit... much... but she can still harvest Glamour from her regardless of how clingy the young woman is.

Family Ties

Father: whereabouts unknown, ditched mom years ago, out of the picture before she had foundational memories
Mother (Jackie Peters): absent, drunk, promiscuous, abusive. Always looking for the ‘dad of the hour’ or the next sucker to pay her way. The kids have seen many men in and out of their mother’s life during their childhoods. A seeming unfair and general dislike of Adelaide, who she constantly remarked was, “Too much like that man.” Looked to Adelaide to be the ‘parent’ and take care of household chores (cooking, cleaning, etc) and Adelaide’s younger brother while her mother was looking to land the flavor of the month or while she was taking Teddy out for one treat or another.
Younger brother: Teddy Peters (born May 17, 1941). The apple of his mother’s eye and the golden child. Teddy could do no wrong. Smart - tested well in school and played in varied extracurricular activities. Popular player in many of the local youth sport teams. Spoiled. “Oh, darling, you remind me so much of your grandfather Walter,” Jackie cooed.   Addy's familial relationships are strained at best - she ran away at 17, skipping out on the end of her senior year.   Mom was always drinking and partying and known around town. Plenty of run-ins with the police and such. She and Teddy (brother) got along like oil and water. He was popular and she was not. He was in the in crowd. She absolutely was not. Her mother put all their hopes on Teddy being the next big thing, but Adelaide did not stick around long enough to find out if he ever really was. Her mother has always talked really poorly of her father and how he didn’t stick around and wasn’t good for them. Wasn’t good for her, but Adelaide never met him as he was absolutely gone when she was super super little and she doesn’t really have any strong memories of him.

History

When Adelaide first came to New York City, she couch surfed - going from strangers' home to strangers' home.   When she played her first gig at Thackery's, and Will asked her afterwards where she was staying, he was horrified. He immediately offered his home as a place she could crash. Permanently.   As Adelaide puts it, they haven't officially fucked yet, but in her mind it's just a matter of time.   Of course, this didn't last. And they began dating in 1968, marrying the next year.    While pregnant with their first biological child, Will and Addy adopted They adopted Ocean Madeline Rose on May 1,1970. Daniel Ezekiel Dennis Thackery was born later that year on August 15, 1970.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

They share between them two oathes: Oath of Truehearts and Oath of Mutual Amity. Will has noticed that since the encounter with the Mages that Addy has been getting more radicalized.

Shared Secrets

  • Will has ptsd from Korea and experiences flashbacks that can get pretty violent/bad. Typically brought on by nightmares, or cars backfiring. Adelaide has witnessed and worked through many of these over the 6+ years she’s been living with Will, and they are the biggest reason for his reticence to take their relationship any further; he’s terrified of hurting her when waking up during an episode. The first time he experienced this, it was all she could do to convince him to let her stay and that she wasn’t afraid of him.
  • Adelaide’s presence kicked off Will’s Chrysalis
  • Adelaide would happily take their relationship further when he’s ready, but in the meantime she indulges as she feels and flirts unabashedly.

History

After meeting Jennifer Lyons and becoming Enchanted temporarily, Alice became fascinated with the world of the changelings. She begged Jennifer's motley-mate, Addy Peters, to help her find a way to become Enchanted permanently. Addy was glad to do so, and bestowed Alice with the Ritual of Parted Mists.

Dreamer's Six-String (Oneiromancy •••)

A well loved guitar of old polished oak, this treasure is almost hypnotic to those who listen to it. Playing it not only puts them in a deep sleep, but leaves their dreams open to suggestion by the player and open to be formed however the player intends.

This is especially helpful when harnessing Dream Portal to allow up the player and up to five others to travel with them (or up to 1200 lbs of goods) through the dreamer's mind, into the Dreaming, and back out again at the place of their choosing (provided there is someone/something there sleeping that can be targeted as the output).

Rabbitheart Watch (Shield ••)

Many shields are bulky and difficult to carry - even the Mists, as powerful as they are, struggle to cover their presence in a way that makes sense to mortals (it's tiresome to be asked for the third time in a week if you're going to keep holding that pile of boxes under one arm). The rabbitheart watch, created by Barbara Lockheed of the Psyche's Box freehold, is a stylish and stealthy solution to carrying protection with you at all times.

The watch band itself is made of delicate silver, more akin to a bracelet than a watch, with intricate designs of petunias, ivy, morning glories, and wild roses. The face of the clock itself has a leaping rabbit on the bezel, with three turquoise blue gems bridging the gap between its front and back paws.

Armor Rating: 1
Dexterity Penalty: 0

Mechanics: Upon clicking the crown in twice, the watch spirals out into a wrist shield. You are counted as not carrying the shield both for armor rating and dexterity penalty while it is in watch form. Transforming from watch to shield form or back does not take an action, but cannot be done as a reaction (that is, after a defense roll has been called for).

Vine Rope Dart (Weapon ••)

A simple weapon made of living plants, Addy's rope dart seeks to ensnare and strangle her opponents. It has no sentience (beyond what a plant would have) and is therefore not loyal to her, but hey, when your weapon also goes full boa constrictor on your enemies, you're not going to complain.

Mechanics: When attacking, a Grapple attempt can be declared using the rope dart. It can't be used again in that scene until the time is taken to retract it (which takes more than one turn of combat). The rope dart has Strength 3 and Brawl 3.

Grapple: The attacker grabs the target and attempts to squeeze him, causing damage. The first turn of the grapple, the attacker does Strength bashing damage. On subsequent turns, the two combatants act on their initiative and each can choose to either attempt to escape the clinch or to inflict Strength damage on her opponent. When inflicting grapple damage after the first turn of the grapple, no attack roll is necessary, only the damage roll. Characters in a clinch can perform no other actions. Escaping from a grapple requires the character to make a resisted Strength + Brawl roll against her opponent. If the character rolls more successes she breaks free; if she does not, the clinch continues.

Roll: Strength + Brawl Difficulty: 6
Damage: Strength/B
