Session 41: Have Fun Storming the Castle!

General Summary

Hour after tireless hour, we sit around and go over our plan. There’s a lot that could go wrong, multiple avenues that haven’t been explored, and not enough information on the king and his people. Is there even a queen? Why bother working our way through guards when we could just incite a riot in the streets? Sure, the commoners will die, but that just means we get a zombie army to storm the castle with. We decide that we’ve been sitting around for too long and stick to the original plan, heading out to case the castle before we do anything else. TT suggests that our best way of getting inside is to get invited to a formal dinner, but Amelia doesn’t think it’ll work because Simon’s adamant that we get to work. We throw on some disguises, opting to doll ourselves up to make a good first impression.     Julius is left behind to tend to Tanner, who doesn’t like him and proceeds to kick him in the knee when Julius tries to take his drums away. It’s totally unknown as to who taught him to do that, but wonder no more! It was absolutely me. When we arrive at the castle and state our business, we’re led to a beautiful courtyard surrounded by a sprawling garden. Simon’s waiting there already and says that we should sit down for dinner with him. It’s the perfect chance for all of us to get to know each other, so we agree and Simon leaves to get the table set. Amelia’s disturbed by one piece of my disguise. It’s a flesh colored eyepatch to give the illusion that I was born without that eye and she can’t help but point it out. TT shushes her, fearing that someone will overhear her and grow suspicious of us.     After a few more minutes, Simon returns and leads us to a dining hall specifically for guests only. We take our seats and make casual conversation with him, eventually leaving him puzzled when TT explains how Cayde was our former boss. It’s a long story that’s summed up as Amelia cursing him and taking over, so Simon lets that one go. We dig into the expensive food, but as soon as we take a fucking sip (babes) of our drinks; most of us are knocked unconscious. Amelia quickly tries to turn the poison against Simon as well, but he shrugs it off, leaving her and Stabby alone with him and incoming guards. He reveals that he never left the courtyard. He went invisible so he could observe us and overheard Amelia mentioning our disguises. Amelia tries to lie her way out of this, but Simon isn’t falling for it this time.     When Amelia doesn’t give up our true intentions, he orders the guards to kill us all, leaving Amelia and Stabby to defend our unconscious bodies. They’re outnumbered, but manage to hold their own for awhile, but the guards bust out their own magic and it’s all over. As a last ditch effort, Amelia surrenders, saying she’ll finally talk if Simon spares us. Unbeknownst to him, she’s using this as a cover to cast a mind dominating spell…and succeeds. She politely tells him to order his guards to stand down and leave so they can speak privately. The guards leave without any issue, except for one who knows more than he should. Stabby notices and warns Amelia, so she tells Simon that if anyone asks him, he has everything under control.     The three of them pick up the rest of us and get a move on until Stabby is suddenly stuck in place. The guard that knew what Amelia was up to steps inside and wants to talk. She tries to dominate his mind as well, making him go hostile before she orders Simon to kill him. While Simon carves through this man like nothing, he’s still standing and manages to teleport away. With Stabby free now, they work on waking the rest of us up and when we do, we make a run for it. Simon leads us through a maze of secret passageways and right into his private quarters. The castle’s likely on high alert now and knows of our disguises, so I suggest we raid the armory for some new ones. Since the king is likely in lockdown, we’ll blend in and hunt him down.     Any guards who had the misfortune of being on our path are killed and maimed, raised as exploding zombies by Amelia. We manage to reach the armory in one piece, so we outfit ourselves as guards and begin phase two of our new, haphazard plan.
