Necropolis

At the heart of Necropolis sits a tall tower made of a black stone so dark it seems to absorb the nearby light. Three great glass spires reach into the heavens from the apex of this tower. This is the Tower of the Silent Passing, the temple to Death that dominates the Necropolis.   Though other wards may have small cemeteries and the ward of Necropolis is home to many living creatures as well, the area is so-named because the majority of the city's dead throughout the ages have been interred in ancient graveyards and cemeteries located throughout this ward. Such final resting places range in size from small family-owned lots to the Great Beyond, a cemetery that spans several square miles. A great series of catacombs also sits below this ward, filled with tombs and ossuaries .   Clerics living in the Tower of Silent Passing have been trained in the death rites of every culture and religion and most are capable of helping souls peacefully pass into the Black Shores . As one can probably guess, an area filled with this much death can be a beacon to necromantic energies and the undead. The Order of Death's Grace, a group of followers of Death made up largely of champions and martial clerics of Death, routinely patrol the Necropolis alongside the 503rd Legion soldiers in this area to put down any undead they find. This hasn't stopped rumors of a so-called "City of Ghouls" beneath the Ward in the sewers nor persistent rumors that members of the Necromancer's College ply their dark trade beneath the shadows of the tombstones.   While largely a dour and somber ward, not everyone that makes their home in this ward are members of the once-living. Staff of the Tower of Silent Passing make their homes within the ward, as do the merchants, shop owners and tavern masters that support these clerics. Many of the shops deal with macabre trinkets and relics, but others are indistinguishable from shops or taverns in the adjacent Ward of Coin. In recent years, in fact, the crowded conditions of the Ward of Coin have caused a sort of migration into Necropolis, as merchants and craftsmen have claimed a large portion of the eastern region of the ward, spilling out into the ward. Because of the somewhat-sinister reputation this ward has, houses are cheaper than they are elsewhere in the city (save for Underbridge) and as a result, there are quite a few neighborhoods that thrive between the various graveyards. Necropolis sits west of the Ward of Coin and south of the Ward of the Gods ,
