Falias Special Reservist Forces

"Patrolling some of the colonies roads were the Falian reservists, a newly-formed militia of civilian colonists to meet recent upticks in manpower demands. They affect an attitude strongly reminiscent of old-world 'home guard' forces, emphasizing its nature as a civilian element within a military force. Surplus chassis are repaired and maintained alongside civilian vehicles in garages, marksmanship-training is performed with whatever can safely be used as a target, 'strategic meetings' are hard to differentiate from neighborhood gatherings and strong communal ties are encouraged to ensure a proper 'fighting spirit'. ."
— Rosalina Toro - Reflections of Parime, Revised Edition.

"The Special Reservists are a mixed bag, since pretty much all of them fail to meet regular recruitment standards in one way or another. Still, nothing beats the footage of a Vaduz scout sprinting through an agri-colony and being greeted by a milsurp mech emerging from its barn and spooling up a rotary autocannon..."
— FCA Specialist Anthony Gomez, circa 5014u

Composition

Manpower

Reservist forces have no set numbers, save for the inclusion of at least one commanding officer per unit.

Equipment

Every asset provided to the SRF consists of surplus equipment and vehicles from the Falias Colonial Army, ranging from nearly-new to decades-obsolete. While some degree of standardisation is attempted, the quality and quantity of gear between individual reservists remains inconsistent, and sourcing replacement-parts is a difficult proposition without connections within the FCA's own procurement administration, often necessitating non-regulation, improvised repairs and replacements of arms and armor to ensure continued function.

Weaponry

The majority of arms procured for reservist-use are designed to be mounted and fired from powersuits, chassis and vehicles only, to deter unauthorised use, with man-portable arms restricted for use by commanding officers and reservists who have met specific qualifications above the minimum required to enlist in a reservist unit. Though the weapons are outdated by current standards, the tendancy for FUC procurement to use excessively powerful ballistic-weaponry means the heavy rotary-cannons and mortars are still able to defeat modern armor-plating with relative ease.

Vehicles

The overwhelming majority of chassis and powersuits used by the reservists are obsolete models from before the intergration of modern Union and corpro-state technologies, but occasionally more modern designs come to them in the form of 'claret jobs' - damaged chassis that can be repaired but not to the standards of FCA deployment - are sent their way. As with other reservist equipment, the lowered standardisation and difficulty of sourcing replacement-parts has often meant that reservist frames diverge substantially from the norm as improvised repairs accumulate.

Structure

Reservist forces are loosely organised by geographic location of its members' homes, grouping into 'units' of neighborhoods, minor colonies and housing-complexes under the supervision of a non-commissioned officer from the FCA, who oversees the storage and deployment of reservist equipment and vehicles, and their tactical useage. Further organisation is created on an ad-hoc basis depending on the number and level of training of availible reservists.

Tactics

Despite attempts by FUC administration to release 'combat-books' on simple small-unit tactics to reservist officers, most tactics used by reservists amount to simple foritication and massed-assault strategies, primarily utilising numbers and the 'home-field' advantage of familiarity with interior and exterior structures.

Training

All reservists are put under an 'incremental regime' of training, begining with the very basics of combat and moving onto more advanced courses with reservists that meet minimum qualifications (pending free time and resources to do so).

Logistics

Recruitment

The SRF pulls potential recruits from those who do not meet full standards for military duty but can still meet reduced prerequisites, including those previously deemed unfit, over-age, or under-age, and those whose wounds are incompatible with regular duty.

History

Historically, the FUC has typically maintained a disarmed populace, as a means of ensuring military control of political statutes and fostering dependance on them for protection. Following the destructive recent conflicts with the Vaduz however, these policies were called into question in response to the number of outer-colonies that were quickly overrun by Vaduzian forces before the FCA could arrive in force, and to the mounting casualties outstripping the FUC's ability to replenish their losses.   To remedy this situation whilst assuaging worries among the brass of 'over-arming' the public, the Special Reservist Forces initiative was commissioned: Civilians would be issued unused surplus arms and chassis for use in repelling foreign invasion, but they would be kept under restriction of a presiding officer's authority to deter any rebellious intentions with them. The initiative was voted into operation on 5007u, and after the first wave of training
