Gatehouse Inn

The Gatehouse Inn is a mid-quality establishment located just inside the north-western gate of Bridgetown. Run by Francis and Sophia Piraz but owned by the Berithril family, it has room for a total of 20 guests, 10 in a common dormitory (1 silver a night) and 10 in 4 rooms (two triple rooms and two doubles, for 2 silver or 3 silver the night, respectively).   The common area is rather large rectangular room with two fireplaces on the two small sides, the counter in part of the long side opposite to the entrance and several well-ordered tables of different sizes. Two big iron chandeliers, blackened by years of use, light the room from their hanging position. Looking closer, the small candles in the arms are covered by a small glass cup, to reduce the fire hazard. The furniture is quite simple and made of wood, like the whole house and pretty much the entirety of the neighborhood. The separate rooms are also simple; the beds are comfortable enough but not too fancy, but the rooms look clean. Some have a cupboard, some a drawer, but they all have a table and a couple of chairs as well as a bronze basins, refillable with tepid water if asking the maids. They are under-roofs, so the roof of the rooms is not flat. The double rooms also have small candles. The communal room is another story: the beds are hard and not exactly comfortable and the pillows are often prickly because of stray pieces, and the furniture consists in a small end table on the bedside and one chair per bed. There is no separation between the bed areas and the washroom consists in an adjacent room with two wood basins of different sizes refillable with cold water. The outhouse are outside, behind the building.     From the outside the building looks like the nearby houses but bigger in size. There is a second floor on the right half of the ground floor, where the double and triple rooms are, which is accessible by external stairs. It is made of wood, but for the two brick chimneys and for the stone-and-mortar well. On top of the entrance door there is a bronze shield with the crest of Duchy of Sealance, the rampant white horse and lance on white and blue background.
