Eutherian

Appearance   One of the most common splices due to their versatility and variety, Eutherians are Terrans that resemble one or more mammals. Appearances vary, but can include anything from feline or lupine facial features to sloth claws, elephant trunks, or some combination. An individual Eutherian is often referred to by their most obvious feature - “Lion” “Ape” etc. though they prefer simply “Eutherian.” Among the well-to-do, Eutherian splices are often purely cosmetic.   Physicality Eutherians possess some DNA of the animal they have been engineered to emulate. Giraffes may have long necks or legs. Lemurs tend to be fast and agile. Moles and Rats can tunnel through clay, rock, or even metal. Armadillos, gazelle, bats - if enough Terrans requested it, in the last hundred years, a biotech corp has found a way to make it happen. Over the generations, cross-mating has continued to diversify the types of Eutherians in existence. The specific splices of many Eutherians are hard to pin down outside of a DNA test.   Culture While splicing Eutherian genes began on Cygni, Eutherians have spread throughout the colonized worlds. Millions of years of evolutionary instinct is tough to breed out though, and though cohabitation certainly occurs, generally Eutherian careers and comfortable habitats naturally break down into subcultures by species. Elephants, lions, bulls, and other physically hearty splices tend to work security in official and unofficial capcities, and often decorate for minimalism. Cats, foxes, and rabbits often earn a premium in customer service, prefer tunnels and burrows, and may even have a mild fear of the larger splices. Primates and marsupials tend to make agile pilots and routers. On Cygni, a planet laden with underground caverns, burrowing Eutherian were the first to be spliced, and more Eutherian colonies exist there than anywhere else.   Systems & Corps When underground cities were decided upon on Cygni, Systems began to engineer their employees into Moles and Meerkats to expedite tunneling, offering bonuses to those willing to undergo the transformation. Shortly, other Terrans volunteered for similar procedures, leading to the variety that now exists. Terran Systems and other corps see the value in Eutherians, and they are often employed for their creature skills as well as in place of AI or Tenders in some locales. (Research shows Terrans are 32% less likely to argue with a Panda, and 89% less likely to pick a fight with a Yak, than with another Terran.)
