Hello, Birthday Tradition / Ritual in Pangorio | World Anvil

Hello, Birthday

Hello,Birthday. Thank you for coming.
— All persons who properly celebrate the day of their birth say this when the first wake up
The Proper Lands, those realms connected by the Gateway, represent the powerful lands of Pangorio. Many different races with their own beliefs, linked by the Gateway, have through the centuries, come to share some customs and even created new ones together. One such tradition is the celebration of birthdays.   Unlike the more primitive folk, Proper Folk awaken on the day of their birth and thank it for coming. All through their morning rituals of grooming and dress, they sing or hum a birthday song before arriving at the breakfast table. Once the celebrant is seated at the table, the rest of the household sings a birthday tune before a morning feast is served.   After breakfast, the celebrant travels at the head of their household, the very young in the arms of their mother, to their respective chapel where the presiding cleric leads them in the Birthday Prayers. These prayers vary depending on the patron god of the celebrant but, at the end, every celebrant is given a beaded bracelet of blessings to see them through until their next birthday. With the gifted bracelet in hand, the celebrant leaves, once again leading their household home where the celebrant spends the day being visited by friends and family.   For children this a day of playmates, gifts, and treats, and is the most anticipated day of the year. Women have all day tea parties and receive gifts. Men receive the occasional gift and accept the well wishes from friends and family. After supper, his closest male friends and relatives take him to their favored tavern for plenty of drinking where he never has to buy his drinks.   Each race within the Proper Lands has their own additional birthday traditions that they add to the proper way and different ways in determining when a child has come of age to be considered a man or a woman. To do otherwise just would not be proper.
