Restore the Soul of Fjordhaven

General Summary

Calling his allies together, King Bombo brought his friends and allies together to address the problem he is experiencing politically. Wanting to jump into the global conflict without opposition, Bombo asked Prim, Alik and Grud (disguised as a dwarf, and a claimed witness to Sovereignty meddling) met at Bombo's estate to discuss the plans for getting Fjordhaven into the war. Coming together, Alik noticed a scrying sensor and magically dismissed it, but knowing that they were attempting to be spied upon. A few spells cast, and now magically safe, a plan was discussed. Bombo called his council and asked that they meet at Moradin's Hammer.

Going to Moradin's Hammer, the party accompanied the giant dwarf. Bombo exchanged pleasantries with the heads of the House of Gold and House of Stone. Calling his people together Bombo looked and noticed Durak was not present, but had sent a proxy in his stead. Enraged by this, Bombo demanded the proxy send his master. The dwarf attempted to tell Bombo that he was seeing to a sick child, but Bombo was having none of it. Relenting, the dwarf asked for the assistance from Alik to teleport to Durak's estate. Alik agreed, and teleported him there, along with a hidden Prim, and invisible Grud. (Still disguised as Flinty McFlinterson.)

At the estate of Durak, the party arrived, and the servant went to retrieve his master. Grud and Prim followed, Grud with murderous intent. Prim, for more subterfuge. Seeing an opportunity, Grud changes his shape to that of Nihilus, grabbing the dwarf by the throat, and throwing him through the doors. Grud was outside of the child of Durak's chambers, and in his ploy, tried to lure Durak into admitting that they were working together. Smarter than to outright admit it, but also noticing that he recognized Nihilus, Grud pulled out his falchion, and destroyed Durak, who then broke into pieces of ice and crumbled to the ground. Realizing this means it was a simulacrum, he terrorizes a few servants still in his disguise, before returning to Alik. Prim stealthily entered the office of Durak, disarming a trapped desk drawer, and finding various financial deals, and the notice that an "asset" had been apprehended. Afterwards, she also rejoined Alik, who after being informed that Durak is not current at the estate, teleport back to Moradin's Hammer

Back in the meeting hall, Durak rejoins the council, thanking everyone for their patience. Bombo then presents evidence, or rather, and retelling that The Sovereignty had invaded the neutral zone, by the command of the Sovereign, and the report was given by Tiff. The congress starts discussing the events, but before the conversations is able to get to a conclusion, an emissary from The Sovereignty arrives. They declare the individual who violated the neutral zone treaty was an independent agent by the name of Zabrask, and a bounty would be issued for their demise or capture. The emissary apologies profusely, as the Sovereign would like to keep the lasting peace instated. Bombo promises the safe passage of the emissary home, and then declares to his council that the proclamation was nothing more than a ploy to keep them out. Durak contested this, and pointed out that a second-hand testimony from facts that could not be verified was not a good enough reason to go to war. The dwarves, he claimed, should be cautious and verify before jumping into action. Bombo was angry at this, but dismissed his council.

Durak, asking for an aside, promise there was nothing nefarious at play and just wanted to talk one on one. He approached Bombo in a private room, and stated that he had come into information that one of his agents, a dwarf named Volgar, had been captured in Draconia, and he needed Bombo's help in getting their release. Once that happened, he promise not to use his political influence to meddle in any war declarations. Bombo asked why him, and Durak knows Bombo has political influence, and can use it if necessary to free his agent. Bombo agreed to look into it, but made no promises.

Regrouping with the rest of the party, Bombo explained the predicament who agreed to go to Draconia, except Grud, who vanished, instead terrorizing the people of Fjordhaven disguised as Durak. Taking the portal to The Silver City, Prim spoke with Drarzuk, who is working as a stand in Warden assisting the Emperor. She asked what the dwarf was in jail for. He explained that they assaulted 13 citizens, nearly beating them to death. After thanking him, Prim regrouped and the party heads to the jail. On their way, they are intercepted by two individuals who call out to them. The strangers address the party, and tells them they were hired to keep people from the prisoner, and they need to leave. The human, that Prim recognizes as an assassin that once killed Meako, states that he cannot let them go, but does not need to fight. He offered them a peaceful walk away, but none of the party was wanting to abandon their quest. He then said they would have to fight, but Prim requested that the fight be a duel, and be outside the city. The assassin agreed, and the duel was set.

The party called upon Grud to return to them, and he gladly accepted. Arriving outside the city with Grud, the party confronted the assassins, and the fight ensued. It was easy to drop the goliath, who fell quickly. However, the human remained a difficult opponent. During a particularly lethal attack that had Bombo unconscious, he offered once more for the party to retreat, as he did not wish to kill them if it wasn't needed. Undeterred, the party continued its onslaught on the assassin, before they were finally able to knock him unconscious.

The party took the assassin to jail, while deciding to question the prisoner, except Grud, who continued his work in Fjordhaven. Alik, using a magic item that compelled the truth, asked Volgar what happened. Volgar stated that he was drugged, and the drug compelled him to fight in a rage. Prim asked who would do that, and he mentioned that he had make some enemies in banking, and believe it was sabotage as a way to get him taken care of. Alik noted, that made sense, with why their ambushers were paid to keep meddlers away. Prim negotiated Volgar's release. Alik, teleporting the party once again to Durak's estate.

Durak thanked them for the assistance in getting Volgar back, and as agreed, informed Bombo that he would not stand in the way of him declaring war. While the political tension remained high, Bombo was able to obtain the temporary cease fire.
