Crown of the Kobold King, Part 3
General Summary
At long last, the adventurer's made it through the vile Darkmoon forest and arrived at their destination, the haunted, spectral ruin of Ladaguar's Crucible, a cursed monastery of an ancient race of dwarves. But before they arrived, many fell beasts beset them along the way...
The party decided neither to help or hinder a drunk hill giant looking for his wedding ring, and took the opportunity to pass him by, but further along the trail danger was lurking.
A dead dire wolf was left as bait by a manticore that pounced down upon Garth as he examined it, only narrowly avoiding the manticore's fangs thanks to the sharp eyes of his companions. The magical beast nevertheless dropped a charging Richter immediately, however, and then raked its claws into Garth anyway, and nearly killed Gven's guard dogs, too. Though the manticore mocked them mercilessly, the party had remembered to pack vaporous potions for just such an emergency, and were able to revive the party members while Gven healed the wounded dogs. Garth's color spray saved the day, then, stunning the creature long enough for Richter's blade to find a new home in its brain. Garth gathered the wolf-meat for food, but only he was willing to cannibalize the manticore.
The next night, Bugbears were on the menu, though they would have preferred Garth's toes. Garth noticed them bickering over who got to eat the toes of a woodsmen they just killed and tried to persuade them to go after the kobolds. However, after failing to convince them that Garth's own toes were no good for food, they charged him, even resisting his color spray before bonking him on the head with their maces. The dogs tore out one of their throats, however, while Richter slew another, and let the third one flee.
The last threat the forest threw at them before reaching the monastery were two babbling allips, but they let them pass by without troubling them, wishing only to save the children as quickly as possible.
