Scope

The motivation behind building Pandemonium

The idea for this world started as a short story I wrote in Highschool, then shelved for years after. Eventually I decided to try and turn that story into a full length novel. After a few chapters I realized I did not know as much about that story, or the world it inhabited, as I thought I did. Years of world builders disease followed, with very little progress in actual story. Several mountains of old notebooks and loose pages filled to bursting with shifting ideas, settings, plots, and characters litters both my mental and physical landscape. And Now it's time to refocus and get all the important bits ordered so I can finally tell that story from so long ago. I've had so much fun crafting this world, very nearly from scratch, it would be a shame to let it all crumble into the ruins of forgotten memory.

The goal of the project

At this point I can imagine a series of novels taking place in this world.

Pandemonium's Unique Selling point

In a dark medieval fantasy world long ago abandoned by the gods, the people have long since had to learn to protect themselves. Calling on the remnants of divine power within themselves to stitch weaves into the fabric of reality, they keep the Baalim at bay, otherwise the corruption will spread. Along the way, a diverse group from all walks of life will come together and master the Covenants with the old gods in order to purge the Baalims taint. But with the Colacho hounding their every step, can they really find a way to succeed? Yes, they can, if they find the Relics of the old gods and call them back to this world.

Genre

Dark heroic high fantasy.

Reader Experience

The world feels mystical and magical with an underlying dread. People should be afraid to wander but unable to help themselves.

Reader Tone

The daylight hours are nothing to fear, both mystical and mundane to varying degrees. Once night falls you should have already found shelter. Life far from the safety of walled cities and castles can be wondrous and deadly. Sometimes at the same time.

Recurring Themes

Loss, corruption, found family, and sacrifice.

Character Agency

The characters will change the whole world and how its denizens view it by the end of their adventure.

Focus

Religious influence: The history of the world has been shaped by deities and their followers from the very beginning. Now only the faithful remain. None remember the truth, but they are willing to fight and kill over their view of what the truth must be. If you do not believe as they believe, then you are wrong.
Class relations: Everyone in society has their place, and they know it very well. Moving up or down the social hierarchy is possible, though down is more likely. Those at the top never let anyone who didn't start there forget it.
Military influence: History is written in blood, and only by the victors. Conflict fuels progress and the people are very progressive.
Vita: Lifeblood of existence though it may be, very few know it exists, let alone how to manipulate it. Those who do know would do anything to control the flow of that particular information.

Mauri bandsmen are rebelling all across the kingdom and rioting in the streets. Causing even those who aren't actively resisting their oppression to be treated as such, separated further from society with every passing day.
