Uspi

Uspi

This three tailed vulture is a bird of hilly, mountainous areas, especially favoring dry semi-open habitats such as meadows at high altitudes over much of the range. Nesting usually occurs near the tree line in the mountains. It is one of the heaviest flying birds in the world. It is a permanent resident of its chosen range, approximately 60 miles, except when hard winters cause limited altitudinal movement. In the eastern limits of its range, these harsh conditions may cause it to migrate down to southern climates.

Physical Description

Body Features

The Uspi is a large solitary bird, being found alone much more frequently than with other vultures. At large carcasses or feeding sites, it may congregate with small groups. Such groups can include up to 12 vultures, and rarely as many as 20 vultures. The uspi is distinctly dark, with the whole body being red excepting the pale head, which is covered in fine green-black down, and three body length green-black feathers at the tail. The skin of the head and neck is bluish-gray and a paler whitish color above the eye. The Uspi has golden eyes with violet pupils, a purplish cere, an amber bill and pale pink legs. The primary quills are actually greenish black. From a distance, while flying, it can easily appear all crimson.

Special abilities

Compared to a regular vulture it is of a larger size with increased strength, speed, and agility. It has the ability to paralyze weaker beings with a stare, holding them with its will alone. It can also sense fear and despair as as animals lie dying. With mild vita sight it can see concentrations of vita and know if something is dead.
